sperm motility is low

Today I got results of my dh's semen test. His sperm count is normal, but sperm motility is low.
I haven't received the results of endo biopsy yet, so i don't know what is wrong with me.
My bloodwork is Ok, prolactin and TSH are normal.
Does anyone know if low motility is easy treatable or not?
I hope that's the only problem which delays the conception.

Re: sperm motility is low

the results say

semen motility 1 hr - 43
semen motility 2 hr - 37
semen motility 3 hr - 28

the normal range is within 50-100

Does it mean the motility change every hour?
I don't understand. I have to show it to my re which I don't have yet
We're leaving for Niagara Falls tomorrow and will be back next week and then schedule an appointment with re.

Re: sperm motility is low

has anybody used fertility blend for men to improve sperm motility? Did it have positive results?

FertilityBlend for Men is a scientifically validated herbal/nutritional blend to enhance fertility by improving sperm quality and motility (spontaneous motion).

Per Serving of 2 Capsules:

L-CARNITINE (500 mg) is an amino acid that has been shown to be critical to the formation of healthy, active sperm.
FERULIC ACID (100 mg), an antioxidant found in Dong quai, has also been shown to improve sperm quality.
VITAMIN C (120 mg) and E (150 mg), COENZYME CoQ10 (10 mg) and SELENIUM (70 mcg) are antioxidants that help improve overall reproductive health.
ZINC (15 mg) AND B VITAMINS (B6 (2 mg), B12 (6 mcg) and folic acid (400 mcg)) are critical nutrients in the male reproductive system for proper hormone metabolism, sperm formation and motility.

I wanna try fertility blend for women

FertilityBlend for Women is a scientifically validated herbal/nutritional blend that helps improve fertility by regulating the menstrual cycle and correcting hormone imbalance (corpus luteum insufficiency) without the incidence of multiple births associated with drug therapy.

Per Serving of 3 Capsules:

CHASTEBERRY (Vitex agnus-castus) (40 mg)enhances hormone balance and ovulation frequency.
GREEN TEA (200 mg), VITAMIN E (150 mg), and SELENIUM (70 mcg) are antioxidants for the improvement overall reproductive health.
L-ARGININE (800 mg) is an amino acid that stimulates the reproductive organs by improving circulation.
VITAMINS B6 (6 mg) and B12 (12 mcg), FOLIC ACID (400 mcg), IRON (18 mg), MAGNESIUM (400 mg), and ZINC (15 mg) help address specific deficiencies that are known to impact fertility.

What do you think about this kind of therapy?

Good luck to all and me

Re: sperm motility is low

my dh tested at 34% motility. Tested again one week later and he had 44% motility of 50 million sperm. We did insemination thursday. After sperm wash, motility was 67% of 20million sperm. the concentration of more motil sperm was put into my uterus.

Motility itself isn't an indicator as much as total number of mobile sperm. take the percentage of motile of total number of sperm. If greater than 10million, you will have a good chance with insemination 10-20% each time.

Motiltiy can be affected by stress, dehydration, antibiotics as long as 2-3 months ago....many factors.

Bottom line, I was happily surprised by the increase and my doctor is optimistic.

Good luck to you!

Re: sperm motility is low

i just did it it's greater than 10 mil, it's greater than 22 million ( the most) and greater than 14 million (the least).
His sperm count is 52 mil/ml, the normal range is 20-250 mil/ml.
My problem is we don't wanna have insemination, we wanna conceive naturally.
is it possible to conceive naturally when his sperm motility is low?

thanks for reply
good luck to you

Re: sperm motility is low

very doubtful. Sperm moves very slow. Has to get through cervical mucus into uterus, into tubes. If you are on clomid(as I am) the doctor said it affects cervical mucus and makes it that much harder for sperm to travel.

Granted natural is much better. Unfortunatly, God had other plans for us. I didn't want to try naturally for a year only to come back to insemination.

Really not much chance of natural if less than 50%. Your dh can go to male infertility specialist who might be able to prescribe meds to help increase mobility. However, based uppon what I've read and my doctor, motility is more genetic.

Sorry. I say give insemination a try.

Re: sperm motility is low

We were told in April that husband's sperm count was less than one million and motility extremely low. Clinic would only consider IVF with ICSI. We refused, and they then recommended a male urologist. Husband went on clomid for 90 days and PROXEED for 4 months. Yesterday we went back for IUI and counts and motility had DRAMATICALLY improved. 115 million sperm and motility was about 60% (I don't know if this was before or after gradient washing). I don't know if this was all due to the meds, but wow, we were so excited.

You may want to inquire about clomid for men and Proxeed.

Good luck.

Re: sperm motility is low

If is motility improves then I guess we can conceive naturally. I'm not taking any fertility drugs. I use only natural progesterone cream and multi-vitamins. My dh started taking vitamins. We need to make our first appointment with re. We just got back from Niagara Falls, had great vacations.
I think if my dh's sperm motility increases and I don't have problems with my endocrine system then we can conceive without any drugs. I'm still waiting for biopsy results, the nurse is gonna call me back today.

Good luck to you
I'll keep you posted

Re: sperm motility is low

Ok, I got my results of biopsy. It says endometrial biopsy is normal. But cervical cultures are negative. Is it about cervical mucus? Do you know how they treat it?

I gotta go to doctor.

Re: sperm motility is low

I misunderstood it. I called nurse and she explained it to me that cervical cultures - negative means normal. So my biopsy is normal, i have no problems with endometrium.

Re: sperm motility is low

I have a 3 years old daughter and we conceived her easily the very first cycle we ttc. it was 4 years ago. We conceived naturally. Then i had a tubal pregnancy 2 years ago and a miscarriage last summer. If i got pregnant it means his swimmers were ok then. I think my dh has gotten this problem recently, he had to work very hard lately. His job is mental job and btw he has a son, my ss, who is a very difficult teenager, and always gets on my dh's nerves.
I'm trying to be a peacemaker between them.
Shortly, i made an appoint. with my re, it's my first one.
If my bloodwork, biopsy, HSG came back normal then i hope my re won't prescribe any drugs for me, he will treat my dh's problem of low sperm motility.
i hope it will work.

Re: sperm motility is low

I don't know about Clomid, but I guess you get it by prescription. as for fertility blend I found it online and you can order it online. Search for fertility blend for men and women and you will get the web-sites.

Re: sperm motility is low

Just a question.
I'm going to see my RE next week, it's my first appointment. As I said my dh's sperm motility is low, but the sperm count is normal, everything is normal except sperm motility. What do you think he will suggest to do?
Is he gonna say we need insemination or he will put my dh on the pills to boost his fertility?
I just wanna know if there are choices? Is it treatable with the drugs or not?

If anybody experienced this could you please reply to me?

Thanks in advance

Baby dust to all
