Heavy period after HSG

I had HSG done about a month ago (spillage occured with some forcing of the die), then I had 2 or 3 days of minor spotting. Now my period came on time, but it is extremely heavy and painful - I am on the 2nd day of the period. I don't think I ever had it so heavy before! Is this normal after the HSG or should I contact my gyn?

Re: Heavy period after HSG

I had an HSG 2 weeks ago and I asked whether my cycle would be affected at all and the radiologist said I might get some light spotting after the HSG which I did and then a pretty much normal cycle. So I am expecting to get normal AF (unless we get lucky this month). But I would get some medical advice if I were you and if it is really heavy and painful.

Hope it gets better soon

Re: Heavy period after HSG

Just thought I post this so I don't cofuse others - I asked my RE and also a nurse at my regular gyn, and was told that HSG should not have any effect on the period. So, whatever caused it to be heavier than normal had nothing to do with HSG. Probably a hormone surge... I was just told to wait and see how it goes next time. Hopefully it won't come at all

Re: Heavy period after HSG

I hear you!

So when is AF due? Mine is due 23rd/24th Feb next week. I am hoping with all this talk of IVF etc etc, I will have magically conceived this month and it will all be irrelevant but I am not holding my breath.......

Re: Heavy period after HSG

Hi, just wondering if you had an answer to your question. I had an HSG done about 3 weeks ago & have just had a horrible period.

A friend of mine was told that her periods WOULD be heavier after HSG, but i was given no info on that.

Hope all ok with you now, Sally

Re: Heavy period after HSG

Only my first period after HSG was really heavy and I could not find out why. My OBGYN and RE did not think it had anything to do with HSG, so I never figured it out...

Re: Heavy period after HSG

JUST A GUESS ON WHY UR PERIODS MIGHT BE HEAVIER RIGHT AFTER HSG IS THAT THE DYE IS CLEANING U OUT ETC, SO MAYBE NOTHING GETS CLOGGED?? AND JUST "FLOWS OUT??" LIKE IF U PUT DRAINO IN THE TUB, EVERYTHING DRAINS MUCH BETTER.. I COULD BE WRONG, BUT I THOUGHT MAYBE IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THAT, JUST LIKE THEY SAY SOME WOMEN GET PREGGO AFTER HSG. GOOOD LUCK TO ALL

Re: Heavy period after HSG

The first period after my HSG was the most painful one I had ever had. It does affect you next cycle. I don't think mine was heavier than normal though, I would bet it is from your hsg though. You should ask your dr. about it just to make sure.
