ivf moved up!! ?? about freezing - Infertility Message Board

well, i spoke with my dr a few days ago and considering i did so good with quitting smoking (as did dh) and i did all the prelimanary stuff in the last 2 mos i can start ivf in my july cycle... i will have mock transfer june 29.. then when i get af in july i go for day 3 u/s and day 20 i start lupron (they dont have me on bcp) then 8-14 days later i should get another af, then i will start my stims (gonal f, and repronex) then er/et in mid to end of august... i just called to ask about the freezing bc i do not believe in discarding embryos, and i was told that it was $600 and $45 a month.. if im doing icsi can i ask them to only fertlize 2 ?? i know if the first time doesnt work, id have to start from scratch, but atleast i wouldnt have to deal with the moral issues of not using them all.. ahhh any help or advice would be great.. oh yea and any1 else having er in august???

Fertilizing just 2 would be risky. You can expect to lose 50% of your fertilized embryos (at least that's what I've been told to expect next week). Depending on your age, they'll likely try to fertilize 8 or more (as many as they can).

Thanks For Ur Reply!! This Is So Difficult, Because I Am Only 24 And I Am Frightened To Fertilize So Many, Because What Happens If A Lot Do Fertilize!! This Is Hard.. I Love Children And Desperatley Want To Start Our Family, But I Dont Want To Feel I Have To Try Again And Again Because I Refuse To Discard The Frozen Embies And The Whole Donating Them I Think Is A Wonderful Thing, But It Is Tough, Because Its Like Hi-tech Adoption.. Is your issue male factor? Did you ever consider or try an IUI cycle? Just wondering.

Asprousey - I wanted to let you know that I understand your frustration. My RE did tell me that they would only fertilize between 2 and 4 eggs with a good chance that you would get 1 or 2 to survive. I think when you are doing ICSI the chance of fertililzation is much higher than allowing them to fertilize on their own. Ask your doctor and let them know what YOU are thinking - you might be suprised at what they can do for you to help ease your mind.
