I Am Having A Laproscopy On Friday, My Re Is Suggesting We Try Iui And Says The Laproscopy Is The Final Diagnostic Test Before We Try Iui. I Am Sure Many Of You Have Had This Procedure And Would Be Interested In Knowing What To Expect. I Am Not Sure If I Will Be Given General Or Local For The Procedure. I Really Want Just Local But If Anyone Has Had This Procedure And Did It With Local And It Was Painful, Let Me Know!
Not sure how helpful this will be - I had laparoscopic surgery last year - not for diagnostic purposes. I had an ovarian cyst removed, and because it was a more involved procedure, I did go under general anesthesia. I can't imagine them doing that procedure using a local, but I do know that local anesthesia is more common for diagnostic laparoscopies. Have you had any other procedures recently that involved any form of anesthesia? You might use that as a guide to how your body normally responds to it - everyone is different in that sense.
I am also have a lap done to "investigate" why we haven't gotten pregnant again since my miscarriage. It is being done with a general anesthesia and from what I have heard about the discomfort after, you wouldn't want to be under just local. I wish you lots of luck with the surgery and please post after so I know how it went!
I had this done a year ago and it was done with general. I also woke up in pain b/c whatever endometriosis they found, they scraped out. They then gave me morphine in the recovery room and sent me home with pain killers. The pain only lasted a couple of days and was pretty much tolerated b/c of the pain killers. But all in al it wasn't so bad. I hope this helps.
I had a lap and a D&C done together years ago because of a tubal pregnancy. I went under general and woke up in a great deal of pain. Of course, mine was two surgeries together and much more than just diagnostic. I have another lap scheduled for later this month (diagnostic only unless they find something to fix), and I am going straight for general. The fasting sucks, but its worth being 'under' while everything is going on. I am looking forward to this one being less painful than the previous one (since there is less going on). I hope I'm right Good luck with your procedure, and please let me know how it goes.
hey girls- wow, there seem to be quite a few of us having laps this month! This will be my 4th lap and 2nd one this year. I am seeing a new doctor - more of a specialist in diagnosing what the problem is, instead of just bypassing it with other procedures. I am very anxious to see what he finds!
As far as the lap goes - I have had general with all of mine. I don't think I would do a local - not even sure they would allow it. The most pain for me that is normal with the surgery is the chest pain from the air they pump into you during surgery. They try to get it all out, but there is always some left and it moves up into your chest and can be a little painful at times. I also had some bladder problems, but that is just me - something about how my body reacts to the anesthesia.
The pain is really not too bad for me, but we all tolerate pain differently, so you never know. If you do have pain, just take whatever pain pills they give you and you should be fine!
You are all in my prayers and I am hoping for successful laps for all of us this month and here's to hoping they can find our "problems" and we all have great news of BFP's in the next couple of months!!!
Hi Marie! Wanted to check to see how the lap went on Friday? I hope all is well and you found out the info that you were looking for It looks like my lap will be on July 18th so any insights from your experience would be greatly appreciated! I hope you are recovering well!
Thanks everyone for your info. The laproscopy was a piece of cake but the shoulder pain from the residual gas left inside me was annoying. I had pain pills but dh forgot to stop to get them filled on the way home so never took them. I found that if i found just the right position to lay/sit in the pain would go away for awhile. I had some nausea after the procedure so was in recover a few hours, dh was not very patient, this is the first time he has really ever had to be the nurse for me! I told him he better get used to it! : )The doc didn't find anything wrong, no endometriosis, lesions, tubes were open etc. so still no reason why I not pg but at least we can procede now to Iui. Hope everyone is well.
I'm glad the lap went well for you! I have mine on Friday the 14th and I hope mine goes as well as yours did! Although, I really hope they find something, since I have already done 4 IUI's and not gotten pregnant and I know I am ovulating each month - I'm hoping they find something that they can tell me COULD be keeping me from getting pregnant! I know that I have endometriosis, but after the last lap that I had, the doc told me that it was not keeping me from getting pregnant - I'm hoping this new specialist will look in places that the last doc did not look to find a "reason".
Anyway, glad to hear things went well for you. Like I said in my last post, the chest/shoulder pain is the worst pain I had from my last 3 laps, also. The pain meds really don't do anything to help that pain, either...so you really weren't missing much by not taking anything. The only pain they really take care of is the incision and internal pain from any scraping or whatever they might do to your insides. I hope you are feeling better each day and the shoulder pain goes away soon!
I'm very happy to hear your lap went well Best of luck to you as your proceed w/ IUI. Sending you lots of sticky baby dust!!!!
Ravaemarie, I wanted to wish you good luck as well for your lap on the 14th. I also hope your dr finds something that could explain why you haven't gotten pg (something that he/she can fix, anyway). I will keep you in my thoughts & prayers this week. Please let me know how it all goes.
I have mine scheduled for the 27th of this month and am already feeling positive that it won't be as bad as the last time.
Well ladies it looks like we are all "lap" buddies this month...mine is scheduled for Tuesday 18th! So we will have to keep each other posted on how they go. I am nervous, this is my first one so I hope it goes as well as Marie's!
Ravae- I totally agree with you in that I hope they find something that can explain why I am not getting pregnant again (1 miscarriage a year ago this month and I have not been able to get pregnant again? So we are going on 2 years in August of ttc and I would like some answers if possible????
Best of luck to both of you with your laps!
ravae- Just wanted to check in with you to see how the lap went on Friday? Was the specialist able to find something different from your RE? Well, I hope you are feeling well and have the answers you were looking for. Please let me know how things are My lap is tomorrow morning at 7:30am, I am freaking out Did you have to do a "bowel prep" for the surgery? I do and I didn't realize that I would have to do that, today will not be fun
cmarie - so funny that you posted this...I was just getting on to let you know that I was thinking of you and hoping your lap goes as smoothly as mine did. I posted a long post on how mine went on the thread by Adoette entitled "Ravae-". Check it out. I am so happy with my results right now. I am anxious for my follow up visit to discuss our options from here!
You are in my thoughts and prayers and I'm wishing you a successful lap tomorrow!!!
