Very late ovulation

I found out that I ovulated on day 28! On my own! Isn't that weird? I wonder if that affects my fertility negatively in any way. I guess I'm posting this to show all the variations that there can be within our bodies, but still be possibly fertile. My progesterone level was just fine (13 something for day 11). I'm going to ask my doctor when she calls back if there's some problem in egg quality, lining, fertility in general when ovulating that late. If you're curious, I'll post what she says.

Re: Very late ovulation

I've ovulated that late a couple times last year when I was really stressed--because stress can delay ovulation. Even with good stress, like when I went on a trip to Italy, that delayed my ovulation, so that I didn't ovulate until day 30 or 32 or something. Otherwise I ovulate a little late anyway, around day 17-19 or so. But I've experienced that. I'm kinda curious about egg quality too. I bet it's probably ok, but lemme know if you learn anything...

Re: Very late ovulation

i'd be interested in hearing what your doctor says, too. i agree with heyknack that it's probably just fine -- as long as you still have a luteal phase that's the appropriate length. like heyknack, i'm also a late ovulator -- days 17-19. anyhow, i'm interested in your doctor's answer ...

Re: Very late ovulation

Hey, guys -
Well, my doctor said that when you ovulate late, it doesn't affect egg quality, etc. She said that you just need to make sure that you're using an OPK and BD'ing the day you surge, the day after, and then every other day from that point on for I think 5 days or something around that. I hadn't heard that before, I thought you were supposed to BD before the surge, too, and that a day or two later, it wouldn't matter (as far as ttc goes). She said that although sperm have been known to live up to 72 hours, it's usually considerably less than that, so starting at the time of the surge is sufficient. Anyway, the point of the story is that you should be using OPK's if you're ovulating irregularly, but the time you ovulate shouldn't affect anything.
I still feel weird, though, because I've read so much online (messing myself up by doing that?) about fertility being affected by late ovulation, and also about having to do it before the surge, that I wonder if my doctor is somewhat "off" or if i just read too much.
Anyway, thanks for your comments, and there you go!

Re: Very late ovulation

Ive read late ovulation is thought to be associated with poorer egg quality. I've also read, less frequently, that it has nothing to do with it, it just takes longer for the hormone levels to build up to trigger a release.

Withy my son I ovulated on CD 21 and he is perfect. I just found out I am pg again, and my ovulation was on CD 24 this month. Turns out my ovulation is ALWAYS late and my luteal phase is VERY Short (under 10 days, as few as 4-5) unless I concieve (1 birth, 1 early m/c and current pregnancy). So Im not sure I even believe in a LPD anymore given my own history unless it spontaneously turns on and off.
