Anyone going through the same situation? - Infertility Message Board

I'm 30 and I recently went to my family doctor to tell her that my husband and I have been trying to get pregnant. I've had irregular periods since I was 11 yrs old. Recently my period has been very irregular. I had my period, back in september, for a month, and it was very heavy and lots of blood clots. It has never been like that. Since september, I haven't had a regular period other then spotting in october and november. the dr checked my thyroid and it turns out that it is underactive. she put me on synthroid and she also put me on metformin. she said my insulin levels were elevated. she sent me for an ultrasound. i got the results back and she told me that i have a cyst on my ovary and my uterine lining is thick. she referred me to a gynecologist/infertility dr. I've been on the metformin and synthroid for 2 1/2 weeks now. I finally got my period, for the first time, since September. I do have an appointment with the gynecologist/infertilty doctor on January 22nd.

Does it mean I'm ovulating, that I finally got my period? Has anyone been through a similar situation or same situtation? What happens, now, at the gynecologist/infertility appointment? Has anyone been able to conceive a child with a thickened uterine lining and cysts on ovaries? Does metformin help with being able to conceive?

I went over a year with no period and still have problems having a naturally occuring period. I normally have to take Provera to bring it on. just because you started (finally) does not mean you ovulated. I have had several months (even while on clomid) that I did not ovulate. I also have elevated insulin levels and am on metformin I was diagnosed with PCOS in June. My insulin levels seem to have leveled out. Remember to not eat to many carbs while you are on the met. I have noticed that my stomach seems to reject food (in one way or the other) when I eat a lot of carbs. The way that met helps you conceive is that when your body produces to much insulin it can change it to testosterone (sp?) and that will keep you from getting preggers. As far as the lining I have a problem with having a thin lining (one of the side effects of the clomid, I'm told) so I know nothing about thick linings. Maybe one of the other girls can help you.

Welcome to the board!!! Sorry to hear about your IF issues. It is so hard o understand all this stuff it is all so confusing. Just so you know my mother had irregular periods and underactive thyroid and had three kids w/o any tx at all. Given she is younger than you and I are now but today science has so many more abilities. I am glad AF finally came after medication and that you do have an appt with a specialist. They can get your thryroid problem under control. As for the your uterine lining I know that they have the ability to thicken or thin it out if need be. You may be put on progesterone they look like birth control pills but are not really b/c pills and they used to thin your lining. As for cysts, we have had cases on this board who have got pregnant with a cyst so it is possible

Sorry I don't know anything about metformin.

DH and I have been trying since we got married and we are both in our 30's so I understand how hard is it especially when newly married. Just be sure that you do not loose site of eachother during your IF journey it is hard enough to go through this, lean on eachother for support as much as possible.
