Well, today Af showed up yet again! We've done 3 IUI'S so far and they said it is up to us as to how we proceed. They said we can do 1 more IUI and if it us unsuccessful, then we can schedule a follow up with our RE. I would say we'll probably give it one more try. It's really hard to know when to move on! Also, is it typical to have super dark discharge starting about 4 days prior to and leading up to Af? I know I didn't prior to BC, but it seems to be pretty standard now.

Black Kat sorry to hear AF showed.Well I dont know what ur case is as far as IF.My situation is dh is sterile and we are using donor sperm.I have done 5 iuis and 5th iui was a chemical pregnancy.I am starting 6th iui and Re says he wont even consider me for IVF until we have tried for a year of iuis so I have no choice.Why he wont consider me cause I have no issues at all everything is good.Plus having a chemical pregnancy shows them I am capable of getting pregnant naturally.Because IUI is almost like conceiving naturally.Well yeah it gives sperm a head start so it does help.So I think maybe u should try another iui.I really hope u get a BFP next cycle and know we are here to help support u.Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Black Kat,

So sorry AF showed up. When I had my 3rd IUI failure I took it really bad and RE had said those same words to me. Just remember that you still have a lot of options out there that may work for you. So hang on to hope, I know it's not easy and as time goes by it get harder but you'll find a way!!

After 3rd IUi I ended up getting a second opinion and will be doing 5th IUI then will likely move to IVF. I will be praying for you that this next IUI works for you!!! If not, and I really hope there is not an "if not" what does RE recommend??

About the dark d/c before AF. I do not know if that is normal. have you discussed with RE? Have you had a recent pap and was it normal???

I am sorry to hear that your cycle didn't go as planned and AF showed up. what a bummer.
regarding when to move on, i know everyone is different with that. for us, it was just getting so disappointing each month. the first 2 IUI's I was very hopeful. after the 3rd failed, i started to get annoyed because each time my RE would use the old line about them being "perfect" but yet no bfp. for the 4th IUI i tried a new stim med and wanted to give it a fair chance. when that one failed i said enough is enough. i felt like i could go around and around with these IUI's and might never get there. so because i was so frustrated, we changed RE's and are now attempting IVF. My old RE had told me that after 4 tries your odds won't get any better - he explained about a 25% chance each cycle, do it 4 times and you have 100% and one of those 4 times it should have worked). so after hearing that i was like, ok cut my losses and move on. it is a very big decision for most people. and IUI's do work for people on their 4th, 5th, 6th attempts. i just didn't have the patience for it and just figured now was a good time for us to bail out. so here's hoping i made the right decision. i wish you well and pray that this next IUI is your lucky one.
I don't know anything about a dark discharge. i know for me, ever since i started taking the progesterone supplements i have had unusually heavy flow because of all that extra thick lining coming out but it wasn't dark. i would recommend a current pap as well if you haven't had one recently. let us know if you figure out what it is.
