Assisted Hatching question

Hi Everyone
I found out yesterday afternoon that our first try at IVF failed and needless to say my DH and I were totally devastated.

But instead of venting I'll ask my question. If we can afford another round of IVF my doctor said that they would do assisted hatching. HAs anyone else here had assisted hatching done?? Was it successful?? Do the chances really increase that much more??

I have done a lot of research on it this morning and it sound like it is very beneficial for those over the age of 37, but also for those with a hard outer core (which I'm assuming must be my problem b/c I am only 26!!!) So just curious if anybody has any insight into it.
Thanks
Tabaya

Re: Assisted Hatching question

Hi tabaya,

I wish I had answers for you but I am just about to embark in IVF so I really don't know much about that. Does your RE not inlcude 3 cycles of IVF with the price. I think many do but maybe your not paying what I will be which is around $12,000. But will get $7,000 back if does not result in live birth. Just wondering some docs are only out there for the money and your so young I would want to be sure you need to spend that extra cash when it has only been your first try at IVF. Perhaps he can clarify more the reasons why he thinks the cost to do this is really worth it. Just a thought. Good luck!! I hope all goes well the next time. I can only imagine your disappointment when 1st IVF was a negative.

Tabaya, I'm not sure either, but I just wanted to say I'm sorry to hear the first time didn't work. I will be praying that if you try again you will have success.

Re: Assisted Hatching question

Hey ladies
I also have the same Q -
did anyone ever had assited hatching ? My RN called and she said they will be doing an assisted hatching as this is gonna be my frozen cycles. The outer shell is supposed to be harder in frozen cycles so she said that wud be better.

Will the baby be normal n healthy if I get preg. ? is there any risk involved ?

Tabaya
Did you get any info on Assisted Hatching ?

Thanks
Golds

Re: Assisted Hatching question

No reply so far that means no one had gone for Assisted Hatching (AH)
I will be the first one on the Board to do it. This is what I found on the internet so may help......

Who should be treated with assisted hatching?

The most commonly used indications for assisted hatching with an in vitro fertilization case are:
Age factor - Couples having IVF with the female partner's age over 37
Egg quantity and quality factor - Couples in which the female's day 3 follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) level is elevated
Embryo quality factor - Couples having IVF with poor quality embryos (excessive fragmentation or slow rates of cell division)
Zona factor - Couples having IVF with embryos that have a thick outer shell (zona pellucida)
Previous failures - Couples having IVF that have had one or more previous IVF cycles that failed

I guess I come under Zona factor.

Thanks
Golds

Re: Assisted Hatching question

Hey Golds, Thanks for the information . I'm not exactly sure which part I lie in, I"m assuming I'm the zona one as well. It's all so confusing!!

My next retrieval date is set for May 9th, so I am starting my meds next Monday. I'm getting really excited!!! We are sticking with the game plan of doing assisted hatching, so hopefully we will get a BFP this time!!!

When are you doing you fet?? Good luck, I'll sure be praying for you....keep me posted on how things go for you!
Take care,
Tabaya
