Concerned.....

Hi girls,

Just wanted to see if I am being a bit paranoid so I figured I would ask my girls.Well I have noticed that my periods are just not lasting as long as they used to before IF treatments. My periods used to last for 4-5 days with pretty heavy flow for 3 days sometimes 4.Now I have noticed that AF is lasting only 2-3 days with only 2 days heavy flow and not very heavy.Well yes the first day is pretty heavy and sometimes day 2 but not like it used to.It has me a bit concerned that things arent flowing right and I am thinking its not a good thing.Maybe since I am almost 34 it is normal I dont know just concerned I guess. All this IF is stressful enough.Has anyone else noticed a change in their cycle?Other then that she is pretty normal still on time etc.Well thanks in advance for any advice or help.

Mapia

Re: Concerned.....

Hi Mapia - I've actually noticed the same thing, although I'm unsure if it is related to IF treatments. Probably since July (when I last came off the pill) my periods have been 3-4 days only, heavy day 1 and moderate day 2, and light 3, 4, sometimes five. My periods during high school, before the pill, were always quite heavy, 7 days, and came every 3 weeks. Not sure if it's just age, or what. I'm 30, 31 in June this year. My only IF treatment was Clomid last cycle, and my period was the same. Just plain lighter in nature. But RE says I'm ovulating, so I'm not really worried yet.

I guess it's something to keep in mind. Wish you well.

Re: Concerned.....

Mapia--the same thing happened to me, I actually had 5 really heavy days then it went down to 1 heavy day and 4 spotting days.........I think it actually has to do with how much estrogen you have floating around in you and also from the hormones in any food you eat. My step daughter has quite heavy periods and the OB actually in a tactful way said they should get better if she lost a little wieght. Which was ironic because I notice as I gained weight my periods were heavier, too.........I also read how some elite athletes don't even get periods because they are in such good shape.......Estrogen likes fat cells so really fit people have less estrogen.......anyway I wouldn't worry much about it but maybe let you dr. know. Re: Concerned.....

And to Aimee's point, I've lost 15 lbs since July, from 137 to 122. So, I guess maybe the weight is a factor.

Re: Concerned.....

Hi Mapia! I have experienced the exact same thing!!! I worry myself about it every cycle. It's not like I ever had bad periods or super long ones, but prior to the IF treatments mine were 4 days with 2 of heavy/normal flow. Now I never have heavy flow, most cycles I won't even use a tampon or pad (sorry, prob way TMI). This really started happening after my ectopic and then D&C so I always thought it was somehow related, but that was over 1.5 yrs ago, so I'm not sure anymore. Well I would def talk to your RE about it the next time you see him.

Hope you have been feeling better. Enjoy your weekend!
