IVF & Early miscarriages... worth a shot to try IVF ?

Has anyone with a history of unexplained multiple miscarriages, tried IVF and successfully carried the baby to term? I am currently having a hard time deciding whether to do IVF (1st time), given that I have a history of 5 miscarriages.
I would love to hear some stories about women in similar situations with a positive IVF outcome. ....Thanks in advance for sharing your experience with me.

Isabela,

I'm sorry that I cannot help you, but I do hope that someone here on the board will be able to offer you some advice. I am very sorry for your losses, and I wish you all the best. Have you spoken to your OB / RE about your concerns and received any advice?

Isabela,
I am so sorry for your losses. I had many losses myself and it breaks my heart to hear of anyone else going through it.

I may not be able to help you find your answer but, I just thought I would see where you are in this. Have you had any testing done? Many tests and procedures can be done to help find out if IVF is the best and next step for you. Have you been to a specialist?

I have heard of many women having success after that many losses so stay positive even if IVF is your next step!!!

Sorry to hear about your losses as well and thanks for replying with your good wishes. I have been throughly tested - all normal and they cannot find anything wrong with me. I have now been put in that dreaded category of " unexplained infertility/miscarriage". My last miscarriage was in 2005 and now I seems that I cannot get pregnant, which is why they want to try the IVF. From what I have read, IVF is a very emotional process. I could handle going through it and not getting pregnant, but going through IVF and then miscarrying, I don't think I would handle that very well. I know that I should stay positive...believe me I am trying but from everything I read, the odds of success are really not in my favour. That is why I was hoping to hear some success stories...I am in definite need of hearing that someone beat the odds!
Were doctors able to determine why you have miscarried.
Isabela.

Isabella, before I share what should hopefully be an uplifting story, I want to say I'm so sorry for your many losses.

My co-worker and his wife suffered through many multiple early miscarriages. They kept at it, and on their seventh pregnancy, he finally stuck, and now they have a beautiful baby boy who is now 8 months old. As I understood their issue, the concern was with her eggs and not all of them being exactly good. Unfortunately I don't know the exact details. But I talk to her and she always says that now that she has her ds, the pain and agony from all the previous miscarriages has really pretty much gone away. She said she can remember it, but for the most part the joy just replaces all those years of dissappointment.

Re: IVF & Early miscarriages... worth a shot to try IVF ?

I am really sorry for your loss. What a horrible expirience to go through once, let alone 5 times.

I've not done IVF yet, but during our education class last week the Dr has said that IVFers have a 10-15% chance of miscarriage versus 15-20% through conventional pregancies. So it seems there is a slight advantage for IVFers. My guess it because they are picking out the best eggs/sperm and implanting the best embryos. Thats just a guess though.

I wish they could have found an issue so you can be helped. Did a RE do all the testing?

Re: IVF & Early miscarriages... worth a shot to try IVF ?

Isabela,
I have been diagnosed with 3 different possible causes of all 7 of my losses. Other than my 2 ectopic and 1 chemical pregnancy, we are hoping my hydroslping was the cause of the other 4 losses, it has been removed. I have read about women having the same issues with their tubes and never having trouble so we really don't know what caused mine. We have not done the IVF yet but, are hopeful.
I hope your BFP comes to you soon not matter what your next step is!!!!!
Good luck to you!
