Question on injectibles - Infertility Message Board

First, thank you to everybody for your kind words. I am much calmer now and trying to evaluate my alternatives. The very worst thing that can happen is I have to wait until 1/04 to start trying again when I can switch insurance companies. But, I am going to try to ask my RE to bill this is as something other than fertility (thanks Amy for the suggestion). If this is an issue with HAP, then there are a lot of patients in MI that are going to be affected now. smsm - I am curious, what kind of insurance to you have (I also live in Michigan). Assuming that I am able to convice my insurance company to pay for the u/s and blood work, I am curious about how injectibles work. What is a kit? How long does that last? How long will a vial last? How many shots per day usually? How many days? And last, has anybody tried on-line pharmacies?

Also, how much is everybody paying for u/s and blood work if they don't have insurance?

Thanks. I really need guidance right now. I am going to call the insurance company tomorrow (taking a "mental health" day off work, and I have an appointment with the RE on Monday at 11:00 (my last day of coverage).

I am glad that you are feeling better. I am pretty bummed - went to the doc they did an urine pg test and it was a BFN and then drew blood for blood pg test but I can't get the results until tomorrow morning. I am just know that it will be another BFN and I don't think I am ready for the disappointment. We want this so bad and to know that it will never happen and that it is b/c I can't give my dh a child is so hard on me. DH is so wonderful and I know that he will be understanding and supportive either way but it just breaks my heart.

Just had to vent. I am going to bed so I can try and get some sleep.

Amy and Jody - I have been reading the posts this evening and am trying to follow everyone's stories - My thoughts and prayers are with you both... I cannot imagine how you both must be feeling right now. Just remember that there must be a reason why this is not happening quite yet. I don't know why, but I firmly believe that these things will happen when we least expect it. I still feel the emptiness you both must be experiencing.. I wish you both a good weekend with your dh's - perhaps taking a break from all of this is what needs to happen... Please keep me posted.
Jody - you asked about prices of u/s and blood etc. I am a teacher and my insurance covers NOTHING. As a matter of fact, I had an HSG done a year agon and just yesterday I got a bill saying that my insurance did not cover the 500 dollar procedure!!! My insurance covers no infertilty stuff. So I did 4 rounds of Chlomid, and just this past month started Pergonal with ultrasounds and blood work... I have paid alomost 1900 dollars. IUI is not that expensive - it is the u/s - I got the Pergonal from a French Pharmacy because it is so expensive in the US. The u/s and blood work, though were through the roof. Each month, that I do IUI I can expect to pay almost 2000... I hope this information helps and I am thinking of you during this difficult time.... jen

Thanks for the info Jen. I just talked to my RE, and to do u/s and blood work (not including IUI and medication), it will be $1500 / month. I am going to call around to other clinics in my area.

Amy - hang in there. I don't really know what to say except you are in my thoughts and prayers. I know you said that you are going to keep trying w/o treatment for a year, maybe it will happen naturally. Ironic that you and I have been on the same schedule, and now I am going to have to probably go natural for 10 months.
