back on the IVF wagon...last attempt. - Infertility Message Board

hello all...wishing you the best and keeping you in my prayers. I responded poorly to my first IVF attempt and only produced 1 follicle. It got converted to an IUI, which failed. My RE told me I have the ovaries of a 43 year old, and I'm 38. He suggested a more aggressive IVF cycle using what's called a flare protocol which uses Lupron in conjunction with 2 stims. If this cycle doesn't work, my RE suggests donor eggs. I'm feeling low about it and am not looking forward to being on the stims again. This is not fair, but we all have our crosses to bear I suppose. I'm trying to be positive, but it's hard today. Tomorrow will be better. Anyone ever do a flare protocol?

No, I haven't had a flare protocol. Although, I might try my first IVF this summer. I'm 36 and have PCO.
I just wanted to wish you the best of luck this try. I completely understand about the situation of facing both infertility and age problems. My husband only wants to do a limited amount each year, and I'm afraid to stop trying - I keep thinking I don't have much time left.
And you are right about tommorrow being better, one day closer to being off the meds.

Faith - I'm going to be doing IVF in June (first and only attempt). I don't have any idea what a flare protocol is but I'm really curious. I do know my RE uses Lupron and a HANDFUL of other meds (literally a bagfull of stuff arrgggh) At our consult/initial visit, they talked a lot about using aspirin too, new and hopefully to increase bloodflow to repro. organs. I think that is interesting since I'm seeing an accupuncturist and using her herbs which DO THE SAME THING. Traditional medicine, just now doing what chinese med. has been doing for 1000's of years......Let me know about the flare thing. If anyone else knows please give info.....

I too am going through my first IVF next month after 3 clomid failure cycles pretty scared and am 40. Wish me luck too and what is a flare etc.
