Hysterosalpinogram really neccessary?? - Infertility Message Board

We know that my estrogen and progesterone are really low. I've had 2 very early miscarriages. If we know about the hormone issue and we know I can get pregnant is there really any reason to do the procedure?

Honestly, I think you should go ahead and have the test done, even though it may seem unnecessary. You can miscarry an ectopic pregnancy just like a uterine pregnancy, so unless you had an ultrasound before you miscarried confirming that your pregnancy(s) was uterine you really can't rule out a tube blockage. It's also possible to have one good tube and one blocked one, meaning you could have a uterine pregnancy one time and an ectopic another. I think it's best to know EXACTLY what you're dealing with whenever possible, and your doc probably feels this way too.

Another bonus is that many women get pregnant within three months after this is done.
I had one done in Nov/Dec of 1999 and got pregnant in Feb of 2000.
There is a woman on the pregnancy board that just had one in Dec 2002 and just found out she is expecting now.

I had HSG done too.. I had water based dye...I hear oil based dye is better........to get pregnant quicker..... I may be wrong. but I read that somewhere.......... HSG was a littleuncomfortable but tolerable......... I got myself so worked up over it...that I got so nervous..........but it was over in about 5 minutes ..tops......! all was clear too!!!!!!

Well, I had it done and I have a blocked tube. Only the speculum was painful. I was sweating after they put it in. After that everything was a breeze. I couldn't really say I had any cramping from it, but I did bleed some. But it was worth it and I think if they'd had a smaller speculum that wouldn't have hurt either. So if anyone has to do it, it's worth it and shouldn't be painful.
