Can a doctor tell if you are fertile?

I am a 22 yr old female and lately every time I see a child or baby, I get anxious and afraid that I'll never have kids. This is because I have had very painful periods in the past (now they are better due to continuous birthcontrol). I think there is a good chance I could have endometriosis but I never had a lap done. My periods would be extremely heavy and for at least 3 days I wouldn't be able to leave the house being sick, throwing up, etc. And I've even ended up in the ER. I am afraid I'll never have children sometimes.

I am wondering is there a way a doctor/specialist (what kind?) can tell if a woman is fertile and she has a good chance of getting pregnant or if she is infertile? How can they tell and what kind of doctor is this?

I would really like to know because if I do in fact have endometriosis, I need to be thinking of a child in the near future.

Thank you.

Re: Can a doctor tell if you are fertile?

A Reproductive Endocronologist (RE) can run some tests and see if you have endo or if there are other issues. Infertility is not an exact science and there are many reasons women can be infertile, but there are many treatments available, so I wouldn't worry until you have all the information. My cousin has endo. She had a lap done to remove most of it and then did an IUI to have a baby. Her daughter just recently turned one. Good luck!
