Question question re:HSG (dye test)

Hi all. Sorry to keep dwelling on this HSG test. I promise this is my last question!!! My doctor's office scheduled it for tomorrow morning and I have my period and will still have it tomorrow. I mentioned this and they said "We don't want you to be pregnant for the test. That's even more confirmation that you aren't." I say "YUCK!" Has anyone else had this test while on their period?

Hi Lily,
They didn't do mine while on my period they scheduled it for 2 days after it so they would know I wasn't pregnant.

Cool

Mine was schedule for CD7...they also wanted to make sure I wasn´t pg. If I were you, I would trust your doc...they do that all the time....I had mine done in a hospital, so I guess they know what they are doing!

Relax and good luck!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/redface.gif)

Hospitals/doctors general advise the HSG to make a medial diagnosis as to why the patient/woman CANNOT get pregnant... and they do not want you to be bleeding/menstruating during the test, thus they will not agree to perform an HSG until you are at least on day 7 of your cycle.

the HSG procedure is not painful and you do not need any type of anesthetic, but you could take a couple of Advil 30 mins b4 the test, and certainly afterwards if you feel uncomfortable... but I was able to drive right after the test, go grocery shopping and come home and cook.

No, my doc said no anesthesia or narcotics. Just take some motrin...or tylenol.. I had to take tylenol because I had a reaction to salicylates.

I just got back from having the HSG done. Thanks to everybody who sent an encouraging word. My doctor decided to go ahead and do it even though I still have my period. He said everything looks fine. My next step is to go in for blood work before my next cycle and then if I don't get pregnant on my own this month, we'll try chlomid. The test was not that bad but now I am throwing up from meds they gave me before the procedure. Oh well - just glad it's over!!
