IVF and Acupuncture??? - Infertility Message Board

Has anyone done IVF in conjunction with acupunture? I heard that it increases your chances, and I went in for my first treatment today. Well he used needles in my elbow area, knees, feet, forehead and the top of my head. When I asked him about other areas, he told me that he does the stomach area sometimes, but since I am starting my injections he doesnt want to irritate that area even more. Is that normal?? Does it matter, or do you think I should tell him to just do it anyway because I want the best chance possible?? Anything else you can tell me would be great!!

Hi Kia,

I also started doing acupuncture about three months ago in conjunction with IVF. My acupuncturist puts needles in my forehead, area between thumb and pointer, by my elbows, in stomach, by knees, near calves and on foot. I also flip onto my stomach and she does 4 points on my back. I wish I could explain why she does these points but to tell you the truth I can't. There are anatomy charts on the wall that show the veins and acupuncture points and from what I can tell she is hitting major areas along the fertility points. I don't know if I necessary believe in acupuncture but my insurance covers it so I thought "why not." I think there are books about fertility and acupuncture that might give you better information then what I just did

Hi My Dr. highly recommends accupuncture. I went a couple times about 5 months before I actually got to start my cycle, but I just couldn't continue because it was more stressful for me to get to it around work etc. They do recommend that you go to an Accu that specializes in infertility w accu. The guy I went to I don't think knew much about it. BUT I did do accupuncture 20 minutes before my transfer and immediately after the transfer at the clinic. They have someone special come in. She put them in my legs, feet, stomach, fingers, nothing on my back. Now I am almost 5 weeks into my pregnancy. Hope this helped. It sure was realxing though!
