Thumbs up The scoop on the new RE

Ok, just got back. Dog is going to have to wait to pee because I have to put this in writing before I forget.
There is good news and bad news. First, I really liked Dr.Treiser. She was not warm and fuzzy (damn) but she was very pleasant and took a very long time listening to me. Her nurse was outstanding as was the receptionist and Ins. Girl. The bad news is that my FSH is higher that I thought. In two tests I had with my last RE one was 10.2 and the other was 11.0. Add my age (just about 40) and that does not leave a very optimistic outcome. Second bit of bad news. My ins. co. does not cover out of network infertility so I would have to pay out of pocket. If I decide to go with Dr. T we could start things rolling as soon as next week. She said she would not use bcp and lupron like last time because sometimes that has something to do with the eggs not growing. My present RE is still planning on doing the bcp for 2 months continuous and also the lupron. Dr. T uses the blactocyst system if they can which means the eggs would be transferred after 5 days and they only implant 2 so there is a less chance of triplets or more. She said that she would start me out on 10 amps and also would be giving me cetrotide (sp?) I think Mare is on this med. Here is the downside. Spoke with DH briefly on phone and we will discuss further tonight. He said he "doesn't give a sh-- how much it costs!" I on the other hand feel like maybe (as much as I hate present re) we should give it one more go and then if it doesn't work out go with new RE. Dh said he would want to speak with present RE and tell him what we learned from Dr. T and I said that might really **** him off as in the past I tried to suggest or ask something but he is not the kind of RE that is patient with people. You know assembly line - get them in and out asap! As mare said they discount cost but it is still expensive. IVF from Baseline U/S to beta test is $7,000, ICSI $2500, Embryo freeze $1000, Sperm freeze $700 plus she wants me to get another HSG which my ins wont cover because out of network $1000. Part of me says you cant put a price on a child but I don't want to throw money away either. So DH and I will have a nice long talk tonight and discuss the pros and cons. He said he would rather wait a month before starting again. I think the whole injection and hormone induced crying upset him. I told him I was better prepared and knew what to expect next time.....vent on the board and eat a load of donuts..lol! So, any input anyone has would be appreciated and I will let you know what we think after our little chat. Nothing is every easy is it? and speaking of easy I am now off to the gym for a class (already took one this am). I think it calms me down. Thanks for thinking of me.

Hi Tmer! I'm glad you had such a positive visit - it really does sound like the only hurdle is the $$$ and you and DH will talk that out tonight. He has such a wonderful attitude! That is like how my DH is, he could care less about the money.

Hope you have a great time at the gym and I cannot wait to read what you and DH decide on doing!

P.S. You should tell the current RE what you did, just to **** him off. He needs to be aware that you were so miserable you went elsewhere.

Tmerone,

It sounds like the doc spent some meaningful time with you. The blactocyst sounds intriguing. Did she discuss success rates with you? Also, which method do you feel with grow your follies the best? Is you old RE going to make enough adjustments to get them to grow? These are difficult questions and you don't have to answer me. I thought they might be useful considerations when you make your choice.

I'm not going to try to offer advice when I can't make this decision myself. It's very difficult. However, would this new doc work with a gyn on your plan to do the baseline and HSG? That might save you some money.

Good Luck!
Mindy

Tmer,

I'm glad you had such happy vibes from the new RE. She sounds good. I agree with Lisa though that should you decide to go back to the old RE (which really depends on how miserable he makes you) that you should let him know you were dissatisfied to that degree to go hunting elsewhere. It's a sign, perhaps he'll wake up and smell the coffee, and maybe try some of the suggestions, or maybe he'll be a boathead and again point you back to your Dr. T.
Your DH sounds precious! I don't care what it costs! I don't know if my dh would say that. That's the kind of comment that just makes me want to cry, sounds like he'll be a great papa to your great mama. What a great home you'll provide for your baby.
Keep us up on the goings on of this discussion.
C

That is great you have a new RE, but I dont understand why you arent doing injectibles with IUI first.. I dont understand how a doctor wouldn/t put you through something less invasive such as IUI..?????? My husband is the same way..he said hed quit his job if he wasn't able to drop the current crappy ins. we have.. But thankfully at least well have ins. that covers everthing now frm iui to ivf...He gave them such hell on thephone..and said this insurance sucks!!! and he never talks like that...lol!
It is very important to shop around..You are the customer not the doc. My RE is nice..but she doesnt mess around..She is kind of the serious type,,takes a lot for her to laugh ! oh well,,as long as shes doing a good job,,,,,,,,,,, good luck to u!!
