16 eggs harvested today! Should I take antibiotics? - Infertility Message Board

Just back from the clinic and still high on the "relaxing" drugs! They retrieved 16 eggs this morning, which is a good number apparently. DH's sperm was still very low count & 4% motility, so they're definitely doing ICSI. The embryologist will phone me tomorrow at 9am to let me know how the embryos are doing, and we'll go in on Friday for embryo transfer. They need at least 3 spare embies to freeze plus 2 to implant tomorrow. Let's hope DH's sperm and my eggs like each other today. They've never met before!

I've been prescribed REALLY strong antibiotics in case of infection, though there hasn't been that much bleeding. I react really badly to anotibiotics - tummy aches and feeling rough. I'm reluctant to take them, because I think they do my body no good. But DH is adamant I should take them in case of ovarian infection - what do you think?

The egg retrival wasn't much fun. We were asked to be in by 7am at the latest, but the receptionist didn't turn up until 7.15. 5 stressed couples were waiting outside! We were squashed into a crowded ward, with 5 other couples, everyone was either silent or complaining loudly to the doctors. I wasn't allowed in with DH for his sperm donation and he couldn't come in with me for my ER. The ward was quite old and grubby-looking.

Thanks so much for all your kind wishes and prayers. I felt loved and cared for by all my friends from across the Atlantic Ocean. You guys are the best!

Will write more later, girlfriends. DH has made me pancakes with bacon & maple syrup as a post-hospital treat and they're getting cold on the kitchen table.

I agree with your DH. I also have some reaction to certain anti-biotics, and I cringe each time the doc hands me that script for doxyclicline, but I know that he wouldn't give it to me for nothing, and the risk of infection is too great.

Wow! 16 eggs! You go girl! :-) Hoping for that those sperms and eggs meet, like each other, and do a little dance. Good luck!

Glad it went well despit the wait.
I hate antibiotics too but I think i would go for it if I were you . This is not a sore throat that might get better on its own . Lood Luck !
