Yes, you can be pg and have a miscarriage and not know it -- if it's early in the cycle. These are usually called chemical pregnancies. If you m/c late in the first trimester, you'll probably know it.

No, I don't think a doctor can tell you've been pg and had an early m/c. Unless he catches it while it's happening throught blood test, u/s, etc.

One possiblity of heavy blood clots is fibroids in you uterus. They are nothing to worry about unless you're in pain. Then a doc will remove them. They are usually non-cancerous. My doc told me 30% of women have them.

I don't have answers for your other questins.

the signs for having a m/c are so different depending on the person. I think the only real way to know is if you knew you were pg. That or if you had gone 3 or 4 months w/o AF and you had heavy, heavy bleeding and then you would probably see the fetus in the toilet (sorry so grafic, I had a m/c like that) but I actually knew I was pg when it happened.

taz, I'm commenting on your note with having a miscarriage and the fetus falling into the toilet, What did you do with the fetus?
