got test results--have question - Infertility Message Board

I got my test results from my labs today (at least part of them) Basically, my ob thinks I should start with clomid--havn't actually talked to her, just the nurse who didn't have a ton of info. Anyway,....she wants us to do SA first. Just wondering if this is a typical requirement before starting on the clomid. We were only holding off due to the fact that ins. does not cover, not to mention we were in the middle of a move! We do want to get that test done, just were hoping to put it off a bit. Thanks in advance for your input.

I'm not sure if it's a requirement or not, but it's part of the basic workup. My RE had dh do it after 2 failed rounds of clomid, but only because we knew I didn't ovulate on my own and that for sure I had a problem. After a couple of cycles, he suggested we have dh tested to make sure that there was nothing with him to worry about. I am not sure why your dr wants this done first. You could try talking to him directly if that's possible and explaining your concerns.

My husband was tested first because it was quick, painless, and inexpensive. He tested fine, so my more complex, time consuming, and expensive work-up started. As my doctor said, it's just logical.

Barbara & Dknees--thanks for your input. In some ways it does seem logical to do that first. Our ins. isn't going to cover, so, we were wanting to put it off for now. It would be better to just get it over with I guess. I am going to try and reach my midwife today and hopefully get some info. from her because the nurse, bless her heart, didn't have much info. for me. I will keep you posted.

They had us have an SA also, just to make sure you don't spin your wheels if it has to do with DH, our cost $100, not to bad considering the other tests!
