Anne,

I've been on a modified version of the Atkins diet for a while now. I generally feel better and have more energy when I watch the carbs. I do 2 no carb meals and one meal where I balance out carbs, veggies and protein. It works better for me because a life without chocolate is no life at all

Since I eat a lot of veggies and try not to eat too much fried crap, I don't feel that it's a harmful diet. I think if I were to get pg, I might add more fruit to the diet, but those would likely be my only carbs.

I'm curious to hear what the others have to say.

Denise

I'm on the grapefruit juice diet which is low carb but IMO healthier than Atkins. I felt awful on Atkins, but feel great on Grapefruit.
Quick weight loss too. It's 12 days on and 2 days off, when you can eat anything you've been craving. It's a low carb diet that works, but you have the added benefit of eating the fruit or drinking the juice. It's also called the Mayo Clinic Diet. One of my students is a nurse and she ok'd it, so I'm sure it's healthy.

Hey there girlie - talk to your doc about getting fastin for this month since you are taking a break. I it is a prescription appetite suppressant and it really helps. Also, I don't think it is going to hurt anything to do a low carb diet as long as you keep taking your prenatal and folic acid (if they have you on that). As long as you are getting enough nutrients you should be fine.

I am still drinking my slimfast for lunch. I asked the doc about it and she said that as long as I have a fruit and/or veggie with it, it is fine b/c there isn't anything harmul in it for the baby. Plus that is the only milk product I drink(I take calcium supplements instead) and slimfast is rich in vitamins. The reason I want to keep taking it is out of pure laziness. It is so much easier for me to pring an 8 pk to work and not worry about packing a lunch every morning as I will forget half the time and our office is in a very remote location so it isnt' like I can just run and get a bite to eat.

Good luck - has AF reared her ugly head yet????

Taz

Hey ladies, I was wondering the same thing. Anytime I ever bring up that I am doing the Atkins and trying to get pregnant, eveyone always says that it is not good to "diet" at all while ttc. We have been ttc for 13 months now, 3 of those with a RE, and 6 of those months I was on the Atkins. I lost 30 lbs total, but the only thing that I can think that would be bad while ttc is that it is a faster than normal weight loss. Even though it is still healthy, they say that rapid weight loss can cause your reproductive system to be out of whack. I never had abnormal cycles or anything, so I assume it is fine. I do know that it (ATKINS) is very good in treating PCOS. I'm not sure why, but I have read that a number of times. Well, if I come across any more info on this topic, I will be sure to let you know. Good luck!!!
