Post IVFers! I need to know about post-transfer!

Gonna have transfer in a few weeks and need to know how "down" I am supposed to be when they say lay down for 2-3 days after. Bathroom trips? I need to know how little I am supposed to do! My friend who just had her baby (via IVF) said her claim to success is laying down for as many days as possible she did like 5 days! I am just wondering about bathroom and other little necessities!

Good luck with your IVF cycle! It just worked for my husband and me the first time, after three unsuccessful IUIs, and I'm now about 9 weeks pregnant. My doctor had me lie down right after the procedure for a full hour before emptying my bladder. Then I was able to get up and go to the car and my husband drove me home. They told me to rest quietly that day and resume normal activity (although no jogging or strenuous activity) the next day. They said there's no proof it helps, but it can't hurt. So I spent the day of the transfer on my couch and just got up a few times. The next day I went about normal things, but tried to avoid anything strenous. They told me that there was nothing I could do to make the embryos fall out. Sneezing, coughing, laughing, all fine. The most critical time is the hour after transfer, when you want the embryo(s) to settle onto the back wall of your uterus. The lining should be thick enough to then keep them in place where hopefully they'll implant in the next few days. Also, I know a woman who was told to be on bedrest after the transfer for 2 days. But even she was allowed to get up to go to the bathroom. You should ask your doctor to be very specific about what you can and can't do. Also, it's normal to feel some liquid come out when you stand up, or even the next day. It's NOT the embryos coming out. It's just some of the fluid they use to clean your cervix. I was glad they told me that beforehand because it would have really scared me. Good luck! You could be pregnant in a month!

My transfer was a little bit different than that...the doc placed the embryo then I was up to pee right away then recovery room for half and hour. "Take it easy" is what they told me so transfer day I spent absolutely horizontal (up only for bathroom breaks) and the two days following I was horizontal 90% of the time. By day 4 I was walking around, made supper, easy jobs but definitely no exercising or lifting or bouncing around and really took it quite easy.

Good luck Kateisboo!

Congrats Rachellara!

Thanks for the info. My mom is coming to help so I might as well take advantage of the down time! Getting pretty painful down in the belly with all the gonal-f. I have used it before MANY times but not this much whew! Wish me luck! My goal is just to make enough eggs so that if it doesn't work this round I won't have to start all the way over.

Oh yeah, I just got braces on (look like 15 year old but can't get prego like one HA HA!) That has been my big distraction (for all of you who know I have panicked and stalled the whole IVF thing for 8 months!) These things are definately keeping my mind off the IVF thing and Im feeling nervous every now and then but overall preoccupied and that is a GOOOOOD thing for an OCDer like me!
