Post Newbie and Clomid first timer - please help

Hello everyone, I've been lurking here for a little bit and finally decided to plunge in. Reading all of your stories has been sad in some ways but really encouraging in others - it's really good to know that there are others out there who can't get pregnant at the drop of a hat, and that a lot have managed and will manage overcome that.

This is a sort of common question, I suppose - my husband and I have been trying for a baby for 15 months (both 24) and have not had much luck. Last month I went to the doctor and after an ultrasound and day-21 blood test he said that I have PCOS and is starting me on Clomid this month. When I asked if I ever ovulated at all he said there was an outside possibility that I had ovulated sometimes, but that I might as well not have because the eggs weren't mature. I did have some progesterone in the blood test, just not very much "much lower than normal". I was wondering, has anyone heard of actually ovulating an immature before and will Clomid help with it? I thought Clomid made you ovulate only, and didn't have anything to do with the maturity of the egg, but I might be wrong about that.

Anyway, sorry for such a long first post! I'm going to start on the Clomid next cycle (AF due any day now, but tiresomely taking a long time about it), since I don't see how it can hurt and it may help, but I was wondering about what other people might have heard about this particular issue, and whether Clomid helped them or not.

PS As far as we can tell, PCOS is the only factor - no endo or scarring or sperm issues or anything like that.

I don't know much about PCOS, but I have taken Clomid and I know that most women don't naturally release an egg on Clomid, but have to have a trigger (hcg) shot to cause them to ovulate. That allows the doctor to monitor the size of your follicle(s) and wait to give you the trigger until the eggs have reached a mature size. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the good wishes! My doctor said that I might be able to ovulate on my own with Clomid, but I was given an OPK and told that if it didn't show results by day 15, they would get me in posthaste to measure follicles and give me the shot. I'm rather hoping that I'll be able to do it on my own, however, better the needle than nothing at all.

Actually it isnt most woment hat dont release an egg with clomid. Clomid does help the egg(s) mature and it does help in ovulation.
I ovulate on clomid without the HCG trigger shot. Most the other women I know who have been on it have o'ed without the trigger shot. It varies because some will need the trigger shot while others wont.

Your doctor should look into treating your PCOS. Just letting it go wont really help matters.
I have it and just found out this year. I am being treated for that as well as on clomid.
There are a few ways to manage PCOS and the first step is seeing a RE(Reproductive Endocronglist)(sp?). They are more experienced in dealing with women with PCOS and helping them than regular doctors. Not saying regular docs cant be great at dealing with PCOS just saying they dont tend to have the same experience as an RE. My reg doc had no clue as to how to go about my case, lucky me she knew that and sent me to a doc who did know what he is doing.

Welcom Maryjk - I also have PCOS and was on five cycles of Clomid at increasing doses with no O. My RE put me on Glucophage 1500 mg a day & Clomid 150 mg and by Cycle 7 I O'd on my own. So, the PCOS really needs to be treated, cuz it really can screw things up if left untreated. Some women actually O just with Glucophage. I have heard of a lot of women that have luck with the combination of the two. Good Luck to you. I am on CD3 and amy getting ready to start my Clomid.

Jody
