Post Provera and pregnancy. Question? HELP

Hi all

My partner at work just found out Wed she is pg. Well she did not want to tell me cause I have been ttc for a year now and she was scared I would get upset. I am alittle. She is very upset and does not want to be pg. Her DR. told her she was pg after doing a urine and blood test. She goes in on Wed to have an ultrasound. My question is she told him she is not pg and don't need anymore kids. She is in denial. He gave her provera and said take this and your AF will come in 7 to 10 days. I am so upset. I told her not to do that. I have no clue as to why he would do that except for aborting the baby. I was wanting to know could provera abort the baby or is this going to help her in her pg. I thought provera was a birth control. I don't know but I read it can cause birth defects if taking while pg,so I think I scared her to not do it but I don't know if I stuck my nose where I had no business and the Dr. had something else in mind and not abortion. I am not a medical DR. and I know different meds can be used for all sorts of things. Did I make a booboo? I have to work with her tonight and I want to know for sure if I gave her the right advice. Any information on this topic would be great. Thanks ladies

Mandy

Mandy - that sounds like someone's got their info wrong - Provera will still not make a period come if in fact the person is pregnant. It is a synthetic male hormone given to a woman to induce a period.

It can in some cases cause some abnormalities in the growing fetus if taken while pregnant, and the doctor would usually want to have a level III u/s done to see organ growth in depth etc.

I can not imagine any doctor prescribing it KNOWING that the person is pregnant. Either your friend lied to the doctor, using her own misinformation thinking if she gets a period she'll abort the pregnancy (which, Provera won't do) OR she is not telling the whole truth and is not preggo, but really getting Provera to induce her period.

If her doctor prescribed Provera on her word of not being pregnant - he is very irresponsible. He should do a blood preggo test before handing over such a harmful drug!

Indy the thing is he did a blood test on her and came in the room and congradulated her on her pg. I don't understand it either. I also thought that was irresponsible of him but did not know why or if there was a medical reasoning behind it. I am just worried if I gave her the wrong advice and should have kept my comments to my self.
