1st ivf cycle and freaking out about shots - Infertility Message Board

I was talking to a girl who I met at the hospital (she is also in the middle of her 1st ivf cycle). We started talking about the Lupron and Follistim and where we give ourselves the shots. I do my shots in my lower stomach right below the belly button. She said she was told to do them in her actual stomach below her bra line above the belly button.

Where are they supposed to go??? I'm freaking out that I'm doing this wrong. Can you please tell me where you are doing them?

I have never heard of doing them in the stomach! The lupron is in your thigh, and the follistm has to be intermuscular, which is in your hip. Who told you to do them in the stomach? I would also think that would hurt really bad, that needle is long for the follistm. I would get a second opinion.

Hi Lissie,

The doctor said to do them both in my stomach. She said the Follistim is done sub-Q with a small needle. No it doesn't hurt to much. I am just afraid that I'm doing something wrong. It seems like everyone does it in diff. places. I don't want to mess it up and not get enough eggs.

Follistim can be done either subcutaneous or intramuscular - my RE's office suggests the sub method either in the top outer thigh or in the abdomen around your belly button - the diagram from the office shows anywhere to the sides of the belly button - just don't get too close.

I do them more under my bellybutton off to either side - because I have a nice little pouch of fat there - you want to put it somewhere where you've got some fat - I've got more in my belly than my thighs so I just alternate sides.

So you are doing them just fine - not to worry

Maricella ~ don't worry, I think you are fine. My RE said to give the Follistim about 2 inches from either side or below belly button. Good Luck!
