Angry clomid side effects x 100

Luckily, for now, dh is out of town, so he only has to put up with me via phone, but I don't think I have ever been this much of a grump (for lack of a better word that I can post) in all my 30 years on this earth. I just started the 150 mg of Clomid 3 days ago, and I can even notice how snappy and so willing to bite peoples heads off for the slightest thing. The 50 and then 100mg never did any of this. I have found a new personality, and its getting to the point that I am going to have to name her (though I am sure some have already thought of a few things to call her). Will this continue the entire month or, God forbid, get WORSE??? In addition to all this....my friggin ovaries hurt already. Is this normal? Anyone else out there have this happen? Should I not continue the clomid??? I am scheduled for a HSG on Thursday (at the crack of dawn, no less), so maybe I can ask Dr then???

Just to kinda put this into perspective, I was talking with my best friend today, and she just started staring at me. After I inquired why she was looking at me so funny, she quite frankly stated she was waiting for my eyes to turn red and my head to do a 360. I sure hope this is temporary. If it works though, it will all be worth it.

Thanks
Laurie

I'm so sorry it has affected you this way. I had a very similar experience on only 100mg of clomid. Within two days I was a complete grump. My patience level plummetted and I was very short with everyone. Unfortunately, no one around me knows what I am going through, so they just thought that I was a complete beeotch! I also felt my ovaries within a couple of days and was very uncomfortable until the hcg trigger. Hopefully your dr. is monitoring. I ended up with 6 follies (2 over 30mm)and had to aspirate on before the IUI.

I'm currently playing the waiting game hoping AF arrives. After my last cycle I ended up with an active ovarian cyst and had to skip this cycle and go on bcp's to reduce the cyst. As soon as the ***** gets here I'll be back on the clomid again. I'm hoping I don't have such a negative response to it this time around.

I just keep thinking that if only it would work all this hormone flucuation, acne, bloating and grumpiness would be worth it! One can only wish. . .

Hey Bastet-

I am glad to hear that I am not alone in this, and it does happen. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one with this severe of side effects. Good luck on your next cycle, I hope you don't have the side effects you did before, I can totally relate!

Currently, dr. is not monitoring me except for 21 day progesterone level. I may bring something up about that on Thursday when I go in for my HSG (I am so nervous, I may forget to ask anything though). My sides are killin' me, right now I can tell you exactly where my ovaries are located- they are not being calm about all this Clomid. Is that a good or really bad sign? Should I be monitored at this dose? What kind of monitoring? Do they routinely give the trigger shot? The reason I was put on Clomid in the first place was due to suspected anovulation.
Sorry for all the questions, I am just SO confused and unsure of all this.

Thanks, and baby dust to all!!!!!
Laurie

Hi Army Wife

I can so relate to what you are going through. It happened to me on an even lower dose when I was getting ready for my HSG. I was short tempered and mean to my DH and then would break out in tears. He thought I was crazy.

According to my RE this is a normal reaction for some to clomid. And it goes away once you ovulate and get AF. I was worried that my IVF/ICSI cycle would be as bad but so far it has been completely different - better.

Good luck with the HSG. I found it uncomfortable with cramping afterwards. I wasn't told and in case you weren't either, bring a panty liner, I had spotting and discharge right aftwards and then for the next day.

Positive thoughts to you!

Talking

Hi Army Wife-
My dr. schedules u/s at day 8 for clomid+iui cycles. I don't know if it is standard or typical, but during my last cycle it was extremely helpful. Without an u/s my dr wouldn't have know that my lining was only at a 5. My understanding is that it is difficult to have a successful implantation without at least a 7 and my dr's office has never had a successful iui or ivf with anything lower than a 6. Also, I guess it is fairly common for women who are taking clomid to have an underdeveloped lining, it actually reduces it. I took Estrace pills twice a day and built my lining to an 8 pretty quickly.

Also, without an u/s my dr wouldn't have known that I had 6 follies, which I guess is quite a few for an IUI. I ended up aspirating one before the iui.

My dr told me that follies aren't as "successful" if they are too "mature" and grow larger than 26mm. During the u/s on day 8 she discovered that I had 3 follies that were over 30mm and I still hadn't triggered naturally. As soon as I built up the lining she gave me an hcg shot to trigger.

Due to my positive response to clomid she is lowering my dosage to 50 mg for my next cycle and is planning to do an u/s on day 6 to check the size and number of follies with the expectation that she will have me take the hcg trigger day 8-10.

This is probably way too much TMI. I'm not sure if the extra u/s's are necessary or not and I would think that there must be a reason that some dr's do them and others don't.

Good luck with your hsg. I passed out during mine, but it really wasn't that bad (I pass out during routine pap smears - long story ) I would say that it is less uncomfortable/painful than a regular exam and it is kind of interesting to see what your uterus looks like. Hopefully they will have a screen where you can watch during the procedure. I would take some ibuprofen or other pain reliever before you go, just in case. During my exam the dr found that I had a bicornuate uterus, which I guess is good to know.

Good luck on this cycle. I'll be sending some baby dust your way. I'm still waiting for AF to get here. Isn't it just like that ***** not to show up when you want her too!
