Secondary Infertility - Infertility Message Board

HI,
Just wondering if anyone out there is dealing with secondary infertility ( have 1 child but unable to have another)? It really is as painful as going through it unable to a child at all. We are still trying but I am looking for some support of raising an only child - which I so grateful to have - but I am having a hard time resolving myself to the fact that I can't have anymore.

Hi-
I have 1 child and am trying for a second. My mother only had me and could not conceive a second one. She tried and took Clomid but it never happened. We were just talking the other day about having irregular periods and not being able to time ovulation correctly. My Mom thinks that is what her problem was for the most part because I purchased that Clearplan Fertility monitor and I have learned sooo much about my cycles. I know the day I ovulate. I did get pregnant the first month but had a miscarriage so I am still trying. I don't know the depth of your fertility problems but you might give this a shot. Regardless, being an only child was not as devastating as everyone might think. I had friends and cousins to play with. And I loved it when I was a teenager because I had no one to tattle on me and had the house to myself! Now that I am grown, I have become an Aunt through marriage and enjoy have alot of brother and sister-in-laws. I hope everything goes well for you.

I have a son who is about to turn 4. I've loved having a brother and a sister and I want the same for him. We've been trying for a year and a half. (Not including the 6 months we tried in 2001)
I'm now on several different medications that are not working.
How do you deal with it?

I have a 9 yr old daughter. We've been ttc for ages.

Our daughter wants to have siblings & asks about it every now & then, but she seems to understand somewhat why she is still an only child (I've had several surgeries & she basically understands they were to try & help have brothers & sisters).

Right now, I just try to let her know how much she is loved & that's why we're trying to have more.....because she's so awesome, how could we not want more. She thought that was really cool.

The biggest problem for us regarding that has been from people outside our little family of 3.

I try to make sure she's around other kids as much as she can be. I know it's not the same as having siblings, but it does help some.

This does make a difference. I wish my Mom would have included me in what she was doing. Instead she kept everything a secret but I know now what she was going through. I think it's great you explained to her what your intentions are!
