What effect will this really have? - Infertility Message Board

After 6 1/2 yrs of ttc, & 7 surgeries, I've been told our only chance now is IVF.

Hubby is in the military & they do have an IVF program. We want to do this more than anything, but due to time constraints & finances, we're trying to be pragmatic about it.

One thing that keeps echoing through my head is that a Dr told me a while back that I have a very thick uterine lining & he thought my chances for implantation were unlikely. This was an ER doc who only saw me the one time, but what he said really stuck.

I've been unable to find anything online about the effects of this on implantation.

We've been hesitant to even make the appt with the IVF people. They're in San Antonio, we're in Oklahoma. I'm worried it will all be for nothing.

Does anyone have, or know where to find, information on this particular subject?

Hi. I have gone thru 2 IVF's. The first was a fresh cycle, which ended up with my daughter, now 2. I just went thru my 2nd cycle, which was frozen, and now I am 5-1/2 weeks pregnant.

I'm kinda confused I guess by what the doctor told you. You actually want a good thick lining. That is why they give you progesterone shots. I would think your chances would be GREAT since you have a thick lining...you need a good lining to carry the pregnancy.

I was in the ER due to another ovarian cyst & he had asked about my periods & whatnot. I told him how heavy they were, I go through so many pads & tampons it's rediculous, lots of mucous (he called it), etc. After the U/S is when he told me that, so I guess maybe that's why it stuck. We moved shortly after that, so I never saw that Dr again, but assumed maybe he saw something on the U/S & paired that with what I told him.

He just basically said implantation would be next to impossible because it was so thick.

I'm so confused & scatterbrained lately trying to figure this all out.

I guess I would call a clinic or your OB and ask them. A lot of times, "ordinary" doctors don't understand IVF, and therefore, don't want to deal with it. Thru my IVF, I know I needed by lining to be at least a 7 to do implantation.

Again, I would ask. Can you call the IVF clinic you plan to go to? I would think at the very least, a consultation might be worth it.

Hi hhsix..I am up there with Lissie...give them a call for a consultation.......and Lissie is right..you do need a thick lining for implantation to occur.....

Try not to think about what he said and look up to the future and what could be!
