A little concerned....help!

Hello everyone I had a egg retrieval on Wednesday and our of 9 eggs 6 were fertilized. I received a call today that I now have 4 ready for transfer tomorrow. I am a little nervous because this is my second time around with IVF and the last time I had 3 embryos and did a 3 day transfer and none of them implanted. I was so hoping to have some to freeze but I'm not sure that will be the case. I have read that 5 day transfers are better than 3 day and it concerns me that I am scheduled for a 3 day transfer. Tomorrow the embyologist will discuss how many to transfer and their quality and so forth. I have been cautiously optimistic up until this point now I'm really nervous. Any suggestions?

Re: A little concerned....help!

Hello! Congratulations first off on getting to this point! Since this is your 2nd cycle, you know how stressful each step can be, so, again, congrats! My advice would be to take the recommendation of the doctor tomorrow. He/she will discuss quality and most probably let you know how many would be best. 4 sounds like alot but I guess it also depends on age. Quality really doesn't amount to that much actually. My doctor told me this and also, I remember a woman named Kari who put in 3 (less than perfect) embryos and had triplets! And, of course you never know! I did a frozen cycle in the fall and transferred 3 and none took and then put another 3 in 3 months later and all 3 implanted, but only 2 developed so I am currently pregnant with twins!!

Also, as far as the decision about 3 day or 5 day...I have had success and failure with both actually. This is really out of our hands because the doctor usually will have strong opinions about this and I had 2 different doctors with 2 different opinions. My first was more in favor of doing 5 day blast transfers. In fact, at that clinic, they didn't even freeze unless the embryos were blasts. My first cycle in '06 was a 3 day because I didn't have that many to work with and the quality on day 3 wasn't that great. That cycle, I got a BFN but I had 2 blasts frozen. So, on the next cycle, I transferred them and had a chemical pregnancy. On my next fresh, I had a few more embryos and were better quality so they brought all 7 to blast and 2 made it. So, I transferred them and got pg with my duaghter!! Fast forward to last year with a different doctor who was more of a fan of day 3s and also froze on day 3 to have more frozen embryos to work with. My first cycle with this new doctor was a day 3 and we got pg but had another chemical. But, I had 9 to freeze since all were frozen on day 3. We did 2 different frozen cycles as I mentioned and we were successful! So, I've learned with this issue to just have a little faith because both can work! Good luck!!

Re: A little concerned....help!

Thank you so much for your response. I think my concern was due to lack of information so your input was very helpful.I love hearing success stories becasue it helps my ability to cope with this whole thing. I'll let you know how things progress.
