Hypothalamic Amenorrhea & IUI - Infertility Message Board

I've been diagnosed with hypothalamic amenorrhea (have not had a period in the last 3 yrs. mostly due to an eating disorder and weight fluctuations). My weight has stabilized but still no period... My husband and I are going for an orientation regarding superovulation and IUI. At first, I was very hopeful but after reading all the posts here, I'm starting to feel hopelss. Is there anyone who has had success with IUI (especially in case of those women suffering from amenorrhea)??? I'm also scared to death of miscarriages (which seem pretty common with IUI attempts) and, god forbid, birth defects.

I would love to hear your story and any input you may have to offer us as we have no idea what to expect and if this is even worth the money!

I personally have not had luck with IUIs but I have had plenty of friends who had luck and even better they had luck on their first try and ended up with a beautiful, healthy baby.

Thank you so much, first for replying at all (since no one seems to be to eager to do that when it comes to my posts for some reason) and secondly for providing me with such a positive and hopeful response. I don't want to have unrealistically high hopes but I also need to know that it's not going to be in completely useless pursuit.
