Can someone tell me how much IVF is? I heard that it is like 17,000 dollars. Some people say they have done this 2-4 times. How do you all afford that? Does insurance help? Do you have to pay it all at one time. I would NEVER be able to afford it!
Hi - I haven't checked into IVF for approx. 2 years. The clinic I checked with siad it was about $12,000.00. The last time we did it was about $7,500.00. Some things to consider is with a procedure you could end up with enough eggs for more than one cycle. What they do then is freeze what they don't put back into you and you can use them later. Also, check to see what they charge for freezing. The clinic I was with did not charge the first year of storage. When I did my IVF's, one time one egg took off after we had already put the others back in. We froze it and tried later, but it did not take. I have heard of women having up to 30 eggs, although I don't think this is the norm. These are things you may want to discuss with the doctor you choose. Have they ruled out any surgeries? You have age on your side if I am remembering you intial post. I was older and that makes a difference also. There are many things to think of, and as for the cost - it stinks when it doesn't work, but when it works you don't care. Unfortunatly, most insurances do not cover, but I would defintly check this out also. Good luck, I will wait to hear from you. Vicki
Insurance rarely covers any costs of IVF. The first time we paid $10,000 in 1997, the second was $17,000 in 2000. It is very pricy. Unfortunately, this is the reason why so many people can't afford to pursue their dream thru IVF. There are several states in the US that require insurance companies to cover IVF. Check out your states insurance mandates. Also, check out your OUT of STATE coverage - sometimes the OUT of Network bene's will cover some of it. Good luck to all.
