My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 6 months. We just got the results back from his semem analysis, and while his count and mobility were strong, he only had 6% normal shape (anything above 14% is considered normal for his test). I still have some tests outstanding, but I'm wondering about the possibility of us conceiving naturally, considering his lack of normal sperm shape.
Has anyone out there experienced this? My OB-GYN is on vacation and the covering doctor said this wasn't so bad because his count is so strong. Any info would be much appreciated - I won't be finding out about seeing a specialist until my doctor returns and as you know, days feel like months. Thanks.
my hubby's 1st sperm test showed bad morphology (4% normal) but good count and mobility. my gyn sent us to do a 2nd test, where the morphology turned out geart (30% or so). my gyn said that sometimes light fever can influence the results. and above all - it still does not mean that pregnancy will not be possible (remember you need only 1 good sprem to do the job).
so do another test and think positive <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/biggrin.gif">
I wanted to add boxer briefs are ok also. My hubby couldnt handle the feel of regular boxers...no matter how much we wanted a second child. So we tried boxer briefs and that is all he wears now. And they keep the boys cool just as well as boxers.
Also hide any tight jeans, pants, shorts. Yeah hubby may look great in them but they dont help in keeping the boys cool.
Also smoking if he does it then he should try to quit. Believe it or not that effects the sperm also. My hubby had two different sperm test done. One he was a smoker the other he wasnt...the difference wasnt huge but there was still a change and every little bit helps.
Just wanted to update you that 4 weeks after changing from briefs to boxers, my husband's normal shape increased from 6% to 15%. Anything over 14% is considered normal. This is great news, but I'm trying to come to terms with the fact that the last 7 months may have been a wasted effort.
Since I just got my period again over the weekend, I have to decide if I want to start seeing a specialist.
as we've been told by our doc, low morphology sperm can still lead to a healthy gregnancy, but the odds for that are very low.
i've posted another question regarding IVI and sperm morphology that might be helpful.
