I am undergoing treatment for IVF. I started my lupron on 12/20/00. I started the repronex and follistim on 12/31/00.
My question is does anyone out there have any experience with these combined fertility drugs and if so, have you acheieved a successful pregnancy?
Thanks for any comments.
I've been through this combination of medication as well as using Fertinex combined with Repronex as well as using straight Follistim. I have been unable to get pregnant on any combination, but that doesn't mean that you won't.
Dear KMK;
Thanks for replying to my post. I'm sorry that the process has not helped you to conceive. We are in our 2nd cycle (and last) of IVF. We've done 3 cycles of IUI. I've had two major reconstructive surgeries. We've basically been trying for 2 1/2 years. This is our last hope to have our own child because I am on the highest doses of meds and I am beginning to start signs of menapause. At 38... blows my mind. I go for my next sonogram tomorrow a.m. and if things continue to progress (I'm about 1 week behind everyone else in my cycle because I've responded so slowly to the fertility meds), we may be in egg retrieval early next week. I am just taking it one day at a time now. At least I've learned that. How are you doing? Are you still actively trying to conceive? Do you need someone to talk to??? Sincerely, Jeannie
HI,I responded to you under, (sick of people telling me to relax) I didn't know your situation then..I see now. I'm very sorry. I can't help you with any info., but thought a little support might help. I will pray for you, that's the best I can do, but I believe it works! I'll pray that it is God's will for you to have a child. Good luck to you, keep us posted on what you find out. Leslie
Hi - My name is Vicki and I have had 4 IVFs and 1 frozen. I started in 1993 and the drugs they used were the lupron, pergenal and metrodine(?). We were very lucky on the 2nd attempt and had a daughter. We had a lot of problems during the pregnancy and almost lost her at the end. We went on to try for more childern but after the failures we finally quit last year. We had gone on to another doctor who thought maybe my tubes, although blocked, could be leaking a fluid that was making it so I could not get pg. We had a laproscopy done and they weren't so we decided not to try. If they had been, I would have had them removed and tried again. I understand your frustration, but I did see a report that it can take approx. 2-3 times before it works. That would mean this may be the time. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Best of luck. Vicki
Vicki; thanks so much for sharing your experiences. I'm sorry you had such a rough pregnancy with your daughter. I hope she is doing well. My left tube has so much scarring, even after two surgeries, that it's kind of wrapped itself around the left ovary, making that ovary unreachable for the egg retrieval. The right tube and ovary are in better shape. Not great, but better. My doctor is thinks he may only be able to reach the right ovary. We shall see. To top all that off, it looks like I may be starting menapause early. I'm only 38. I've been on the max med's for the last two cycles and didn't respond at all the first cycle. Normally, if you don't respond once, you won't respond at all. This time, I am responding, but not as quickly as most patients. This means there won't be a 3rd or 4th attempt at IVF without an egg donor. I just don't have them anymore. (Save for the few I have been able to muster up this cycle). All I can do is pray about it. I will keep you and your family in my prayers as well.
Leslie; thank you also for responding to my post! I thought I was alone out here for the longest time. <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif"> Now I see I'm not. Your reply is very tender and sweet. Thank you for that. I appreciate your prayers for God's will. I am also praying that I can accept God's will if His will doesn't match up to mine. I am also praying that if this doesn't work for us, my niece will be able to do the egg donor in a relatively quick manner. Although who knows? She's nursing her baby and plans to do that for as long as the baby wants to nurse. I don't feel strong enough anymore to wait for another 2 or 3 years. But I'm not going to look that far off. I'll just remain (or try to remain) hopeful for this cycle to be "our cycle"! How are you doing?
How much is IVF. I heard it was like 17 thousand dollars. Some of you here say you have done it like 2-3 times. That is very expensive! I would never be able to afford that. Does Insurance help? Do you have to pay it all at one time?
the medications for IVF are very expensive. The first time we tried it we bought enough medication for the first two weeks and it was over $3,500. We were canceled because I wasn't responding to the meds. This time, we've spent about $4,500 and I am responding to the meds. My doctor is a very special man in that he has reduced his price for us. I've known him for almost 5 years and he knows how badly my husband and I want children, so he has given us a significant reduction on his price. I notice you are in Texas. So am I. What area are you from? He's in NC Texas, the DFW area. He is not in the business of infertility for the money but to truly help couples who deserve and want children. We have been blessed b/c my husband has wonderful insurance coverage through his employer and part of our expenses were covered. The other part that we're having to pay for ourselves, we've saved for, we're scrimping, and if we had to, we would take out a loan to do this. That's how badly we want a family. You'll do whatever you have to do. Good luck to you. I had good news today at the doctor. My follicles are maturing and we go for egg retrieval on Monday! (That's another charge for the anisthesiologist). I am so hopeful!
Congratulations on your news! I hope all goes well tommorrow and the next few days. I will be saying prayers for you and your husband. I will be waiting to hear from you and if you need some support while waiting you know where to find us. Vicki
Alazay; I have blocked tubes. When I was younger, I had a huge problem with ovarian cycsts. I also had some other surgeries that could have led to all the scarring I currently have.
Since you're in Dallas, you may want to look into my infertility doc. His name is Dr. Sy Q. Le. He's located off of I-635 and MacArthur in Irving at Baylor Irving/Coppell. His phone # is 972-506-9986. You may want to just set up a consultation with him and see what his views of your situation is.
Let me know what you decide. I hope he can help you.
