Personally, I think you have ONE infection that has NEVER been cured.
I went round and round like this with a strep infection in my throat for 20 years with GALLONS of antibiotics and an endless cycle of "reinfection- usually 5-6 bouts a year"

In college at least somebody TRIED...I was given a LARGE shot of penicillin into alternating arms EVERY DAY for 30 days (SORE SORE ARMS!) PLUS 4 Ampicillin capsules a day + some experimental antibiotic...then my tonsils were removed.
I got 10 years relief.
When it started recurring (monthly for 2 years...stopped ONLY by antibiotics) I went to my doctor and got the customary LARGE dose of penicillin and IMMEDIATELY went to an ER (with a 104 fever.....it had once gone to 106 and I had to be iced).
At the ER I said I had NO DOCTOR and that only large doses of penecillin stopped this. They gave me ANOTHER shot the same day....only I knew the truth....I was even tempted to go to ANOTHER hospital and get a THIRD shot that day but didn't.

I was FINALLY cured forever (well 30 years anyway.)

The problem is the doctor's egos: they assume you were "cured" each time by their marvellous skills. It took 20 years for some doctor to accept the fact that I had only ONE strep sore throat, NEVER cured, and it persisted through my whole chidhood and teen life!
