vestibular rehab

How long does it usually take to feel better from dizzy/lightheaded/imbalance symptoms when undergoing vestibular rehab(with the exercises at home and at the facilities)?

Re: vestibular rehab

Judging by what I read on these boards, there is absolutely no hard and fast rule about how long it takes to feel better. It is so individual. It depends on what your diagnosis is, whether you have secondary illnesses or afflictions - so many peple seem to have allergies, some hypothyroidism, not to mention a host of other things that can delay recovery. In my own case I was diagnosed with BPPV nearly 2 years ago, but that was after an isolated incident and I didn't have another one for nearly a year - just some quick spins on lying down or getting up from bed. Then it kicked in good and proper after being in bed las summer with a herniated disc. Since then I had treatment - epleys - remission, then it came back, more treatment, doing quite nicely until I did one of my back exercises all wrong and made myself horribly giddy. That was 2 months ago. Had 2 more epleys and now do only one exercise at home and it seems to be working. Have had 6 symptom-free weeks, just an occasional blip. What is your diagnosis? Have you had the epley? Though this is treatment for BPPV only.
Hope your symptoms soon pass
Madeleine

Re: vestibular rehab

Like the above, there is no time frame tallman...I was told I'd see first improvements at 3mth mark. And I was also told I would prob have to do VRT for 1 year. It depends on how long you've had it, other problems and how well you respond plus the VRT that you do.

Re: vestibular rehab

Emsybobs, I just met the "town's physiotherapist" (live in a small town ) on the street and asked her is she ever did any VRT. She had heard about it but had never done any. She told me that she would like to help me because at the same time she could learn more about it. What other exercice are there apart from the Cawthorne exercices.

Day 7 without using my glasses. It's hard but I did it!!!! Just came back from a charity supper with lots of people and noise. Had to walk around to go get my dessert! But I dit it

Using my reading glasses really made a big difference because I find it a lot harder walking around without them. Hope I see a difference in the long run. That's VRT for me!!

Re: vestibular rehab

MP, keep the glasses thing up...its good to get your eyes to adjust...there are mainly cawthorne cooksey but there are adaptationsof them - like using foam etc. Search in the net for some articles and take them into her. Im pleased you are going to do VRT. I have just taught this morn and am not feeling too dizzy after 20 4 year olds jumping around!!!
