less dizzy, more neck pain?

Maybe I've been so focused on functioning through the dizziness that I never noticed my neck pain, but recently I've had a decrease in my dizzy time (which is great!) but increased pain in my neck. It's been keeping me up at night, it's a dull, annoying ache on the side of my bad ear.

Does anyone else have neck pain?

Perhaps the two things aren't even related...

Re: less dizzy, more neck pain?

Yes I do actually often have really bad neck discomfort/pain/clickiness.
I even saw a physio for it but he didn't think it was related (although I have to admit after the sessions with him I often felt more "focused")
He always used to say that there a few MAIN causes of dizziness and one of them can involve your neck - but I can't rememebr exactly what this is sorry!!! I'm sure someone else can though!
I have read quite a few posts on here about people with neck pain as well as the inner-ear problems.

Hope you get some better answers soon! lol!

Re: less dizzy, more neck pain?

yes i have neck discomfort radiating up the right side towards my ear.from what ive read this could be a factor with inner ear/balance difficulties.maybe you could adjust your posture.practice the alexandra technique or reduce time at computer.all the best

Re: less dizzy, more neck pain?

Hi. YES YES YES!
With me this whole thing started with my neck and it was the first thing I said when I saw the ENT but unfortunately he didn't seem to take much interest in it. So now I am wondering if I am back at square one since he did all the ear tests and found basically nothing. (I'm wondering if he just did all of it so he could say it's not my ear and wash his hands of me...)

Re: less dizzy, more neck pain?

Hi Cori,

Neck pain is quite common with inner ear disorders unfortunately. I've had tons of it. I think the anxiety created by this also leaves us wide open to pain because of increased muscle tension and overall changes in the body's chemistry from excess stress. The usual places get hit - neck, lower back, shoulders. If you think about it, the neck muscles are probably working overtime trying to keep your head steady with all of the mixed up balance signals. What worked for me was seeing a chiro for neck and lower back adjustments (excellent results actually) plus myofascial release (type of massage). I'm still susceptible to neck and back pain if I don't watch it. But it's managable now and no longer debilitating. Yoga is great too to keep things stretched and relaxed.

Cheers....Scott
