Dizziness question from someone new - Inner Ear Disorders Message Board

Hello everyone,
I normally post on the MS site as that is what doctors initially thought I had, but now they seem to be clueless. I just had an appointment with a doctor that specializes in dizziness, one of my major complaints. He is sending me for balance testing. Not sure what exactly will be done with that test.

The question I have for those of you that experience dizziness, is do you also experience tingling in your hands and/or feet, and do you have problems with your eyes - a foggy feeling or a shaking feeling? Then there is the fatigue.
Any of these familiar symptoms?

I would appreciate any info any of you might have.

Have had all the symptoms you posted. Brain fog the worse-although I dread the "off" feeling. I did go to a balance clinic and they gave me exercises-place a card with a word on it about arms lenght away from the wall. For 5 minutes move you head left to right and up /down. When you can do that without getting "spacey" the put the card against a busy wall background and continue the same. First do these sitting then when you are aboe to do them-start with standing. Also I was on some type o balance machine-which had a little stick man in the center. I was to use my body to move the "stickman" to areas on the screen -then they would give a rating on how well my balance was. I also stood on a "pillow" and did the same exercise.
Like others on this board I have been coping with this stuff for over 6 months. Started with severe case of vertigo at work. The brain fog has finally left but still get dizzy / light headed and "off balance" feels like I could topple over or trip over my own feet. Eyes at times feel like ping-pong balls-lol. Leg get jelly feeling-I find busy wall patterns, shining floors (just been waxed/buffed-like in stores), light flickering through trees while driving or noisy / busy environments seem to bring the sensations on. The one thing that I have found is learning to get your confidence back-when starting to get light-headed-afraid the severe vertigo is about to return.
Alos look on the internet their are the Elpy Manuvers and look at sticky in this formthere is s site you can download the exercises. Note-these sympotms were caused by inner ear problems and body dealing with compensation-not sure what you are dealing with. Good Luck.

Hi tooobuzi:

Hope you get somewhere with your doc visit and testing. If you get a chance, read some of the stuff on the information archive before you go in if you haven't already. I don't want to diagnose you of course but MAV might be a possibility (you don't have to have classic migraine for it and some neurological stuff can go with it)
Just a thought.

What is MAV? At this point I am looking into any and everything that even remotely resembles my symptoms.

The neuro's have me on Xanax, because they think this is all being caused by anxiety. I am doubtful but am trying the meds anyways. The Xanax seems to reduce the dizziness but it is not going away and it does nothing for my tingling etc.

So any ideas you have I am all ears!

MAV= Migraine associated vertigo.
You can get many symptoms similar to inner ear and often there is no "headache" (the dizziness is the migraine) but some do get a migraine headache with it too...each person is different. Visual symptoms and other aura manifestations can also come with.
