eye twitching and facial spasms with vestibular neuronitis

Can anyone help me?? This is my first time posting, although I've been reading everyone elses threads for awhile, trying to understand my own symptoms. I was diagnosed with vestibular neuronitis several months ago, after much testing. It was determined that I had a virus that attacked my inner ear and resulted in 34% reduced vestibular function in my rt ear. That was 6 months ago. I made it through the debilitating dizziness and everything was getting better. Until a couple of days ago. I started having the ringing in my ears, dizziness, eye twitching, and now facial spasms. Has anyone else experienced facial spasms and eyelid twitching with this? Also, it feels as though my left arm goes numb/tingling alot. I went to the dr. and they said that I have fluid on my ear and a sinus infection. But no one can explain the facial spasms and eyelid twitching. Please help!!

Re: eye twitching and facial spasms with vestibular neuronitis

Hi Mikelly:
I'm just guessing but possibly there is pressure on some other nerves because of inflammation or something from the sinus/ear infection. Or possibly a nervous reaction that is just from the anxiety/emotional stress of dealing with this.
It is frustrating to not have the Dr. give you any information. I had a tiny eyelid twitch for awhile that would happen intermittently and when I was really symptomatic a few months ago I had one bout with it that nearly drove me crazy until it passed. Also had the numbness in the left arm.
Did your Doc do any MRI's or anything before giving you your diagnosis?
Hope you feel better.

Re: eye twitching and facial spasms with vestibular neuronitis

I had an MRI/MRA when my symptoms first started about 6 months ago and it was normal. I too had what my ENT called eyelid flutter. Everytime I would close my eyes, they would bounce around like crazy making it very hard to sleep. My dr said that whatever attacked my inner ear had probably also attacked my 5th and 7th cranial nerve causing the flutter. I don't really buy that though, because my eyelid flutter is almost completely gone now. But everytime, I have a sinus infection or cold, my eye starts to twitch. My arm will be numb/tingling for a few days at a time, and then it will be fine again. It's so wierd. I never would have imagined that having inner ear problems, could cause so many syptoms that seem to be so unrelated. It is very comforting to read everyones threads and know that I am not going crazy, other people are going through the same thing as me. Thank you for your response.
