Vertical Heterophoria

HI everyone,
I havent been on here in a really long time becuase Ive been back up at school, but I recently went to a optometrist who speicializes in what is called vertical heterophoria. Just some background on me..Ive had every test a dizzy person could have, CT scans, MRI's, ENG's, audiograms. I am very very fortunate to say they have all come back perfectly normal. Ive been dizzy for about 6 months now and can remember being worried I felt dizzy when I was a kid. (i know that sounds weird) But anyways, I was diagnosed with VH and my doctor has helped about 700 people with my same case. Dizzy for a long time, headaches, all those wonderful symptoms. VH is when your eyes do not align correctly which causes strain on your eye muscles, therefore causing dizziness and headaches. I was not surprised because if both of my eyes are seeing at a different level, of course that would cause dizziness and strain. Sooooo, she fit me with a pair of what are called prism glasses which are to make my eyes see on the same level again. I wore the glasses within 30 minutes and she compared tests from before and after the 30 mins, and she already noticed a difference in my muscle tension in my eyes. I know from when I was on the boards alot, I came across many many people who had the same problem as me...we just don't know why we feel like crud all the time! I just wanted to share this information with all of you, in case you are in a rut like I was, or if you are taking a long time to compensate. VH could be hindering your compensation. So like I said, just wanted to share this with all of you. Reply with some feedback about what you think!

Re: Vertical Heterophoria

Wouldn't it be awesome if this was the final piece in your healing puzzle?!!!!! I do have a question - would any eye exam reveal this condition, or are there specialized tests that a regular eye exam wouldn't include? I'm just wondering if one might have to go to a special eye dr. to see if they might have this condition, or if it can be diagnosed by a non-specialist.
Thanks!!!

Re: Vertical Heterophoria

Hi Kaylie,

I was wondering about you and am glad you checked in. Are you feeling better now with the new glasses? I'd be curious about hearing more about the testing too. I've had a huge problem with my eyes and of course the headaches have been there since day one. My dizziness has really slowed down but my vision is still off. Thanks for the information.

Take care and I'm hoping those glasses are working for you.
Gloria

Re: Vertical Heterophoria

How are you coming along with the prisms? I am very curious as I am going to travel out of state to see the good doctor.
