progress report

Hi everyone,

Just to say that I have just had another relapse which just about ruined my holiday in bonnie Scotland! I think it was caused by allergies which I haven't really suffered from before. I have had labs, most recently diagnosed as VN, for 20 months now and this year have had a stuffy nose and stinging eyes, which I think might have been a mild form of hayfever. Anyway, my son suffers from hayfever and was particularly bad on holiday so I think maybe this caused my relapse too. Either that or the fact that the owners of the caravan we stayed in have four dogs (which I could smell quite strongly), could have triggered an allergic reaction. I just don't know. But I couldn't stand up and had to spend a couple of days in the caravan while everyone else went off enjoying themselves! For the rest of the holiday I was very unsteady on my feet, but have been pretty good since I came back home.

I just wanted to point out that since my initial attack, where I was off work for nearly six months, I have had one relapse in Feb which lasted 5 weeks and this one two weeks ago which lasted nearly two weeks. This seems to verify the fact that you do recover quicker each time you have an attack!

Gloria, your posts make me feel so sad and I feel so sorry that you have had so much tragedy in your life. It must be really hard for you and I sincerely hope you do get better soon.

Everyone else please take care x

I can relate to what you are saying, although since I have had this for only 4 months I dont know really what to expect - ie will I be long haul or is this me coming out of it for good.

I live in Scotland aswell and must say at this time of year hayfever is a big factor in many peoples lives and I guess witht his stuff it makes it even worse. Where in Scotland were you visiting?

Re: progress report

Hi,

Lets hope that you are coming out of it now and that you are one of the lucky ones.

I have visited Scotland every year for 20 years and absolutely love everything about the place. We tend to stick to Aviemore now as there is so much to do for the kids, though I also love Fort William. We have been up to Forres as my hubby has family there and have stayed in that area a few times for out hols. Which part are you from? My hubby was born in Motherwell and I keep trying to send him back but he won't go!

I am from Newcastle upon Tyne, so not too far away, we actually visit the scottish borders nearly every weekend for a day out! Always north, never south!

What's it like as regards to getting treatment for your condition up there?

Take care

Re: progress report

Hey, fingers crossed anyway!

Im from Central Scotland - Stirling. Aviemore is lovely, I used to go fishing up there often before this hit me and my aim is to get back up there this month and enjoy the lovely fishing and views!

As for treatment up here - quite pathetic to be honest. The NHS waiting times are ridiculous so Ive went private so I should get seen this week hopefully!

How are you feeling these days? I hope you, and everyone else suffering from this gets through it and feels 100% like their old self again!

Re: progress report

Yeah we love fishing in the loch at Rothimurcus in Aviemore, hire all the gear, not serious stuff, but it's fun! Never caught a tiddler this year which was a little disappointing. The fish were actually jumping in front of us, laughing at us I think!

Anyway, yes I am feeling much better after my little relapse, still a bit off balance at times, but just like I was before. Have to go back to work on Friday so that's going to be hard. I think it's more the anxiety that gets to you when you have to work, just in case something happens.

The waiting list for the ENT down here is over 3 months which is absolutely ridiculous as the treatment is so simple, ie. VRT, that I think it should be handed out at the doctor's surgery as soon as Labs/VN is suspected, as the earlier you start doing them the quicker the recovery, I'm sure. I didn't actually get any of the VRT exercises until about 6 months ago from the balance rehabilitation clinic which was actually over a year since I started with this illness, shocking.

Anyway, hope since you are going private that it's easier for you. Don't forget to post and let us know what happens. Take care.
