Red face Sound like labyrinthitis? Please read.

I'll try to make this as brief as possible.

I'm a 22 year old female.

For about 2 weeks, I have been experiencing vertigo accompanied with dull head/face pain and neck pain.

I saw a doctor at my school's health center and she passed it off as possible stress or allergies.

Yesterday I laid in bed practically all day (on purpose) and felt GREAT until last night when I got severe vertigo while lying down. It was better while standing.

I went to Urgent Care and the doctor, who didn't seem terribly interested in my problem, told me maybe it's labyrinthitis and prescribed me with Meclizine and Astelin nasal spray.

Here are my symptoms:

1) Dull headache/face pain/neck pain - especially in the jaw/teeth area
2) Vertigo/feeling of being on a boat
3) Sense of "surrealism"/in a daze

I am able to "function" quite normally, but I just feel like I'm in a daze, not myself. I lose things, knock things over, forget what I was doing... I feel like I need to relax my face but I can't... I don't think it's a sinus infection though, because I'm not congested at all.

I am starting to feel better, day by day, but I also suffer from anxiety and I can't help but worry that it could be something very serious. By reading my symptoms, what do YOU think?

Re: Sound like labyrinthitis? Please read.

Hi, the first thing I would do if I were you is go to see a specialist, start with an ENT or a neurotologist who specializes in vertigo. Also, do your own research on the internet, there is tons of information out there. Your face pain, sounds like sinus issues, you wouldn't necessarily have to have cold symptoms. Also, there is vertigo associated with migraines, have you been diagnosed with migraines? Also, the doctor could be correct in stating that it could have something to do with stress and anxiety, the more I read here and online, the more you learn how we are quite physically affected by our own emotional being. As for you feeling in a "daze", if you are taking the Meclizine, that's it! It did the same thing to me, I thought it was the Vertigo causing my brain fog, but finally a doctor told how it basically puts you in a brain stupor! I would take half or stop them all together and see how you feel. Labyrinthitis is a swelling in the inner ear caused by a viral infection. If this is what you have, it takes people different amounts of time to recuperate. I suffered a severe vertigo attack 1 month ago and am still feeling the affects of it everyday, I still can't put my head up and still the room spins when I get out of bed. But, everyday seems to get a little tiny bit better. Hang in there, stay relaxed, see a specialist to clear your mind about it being anything serious. Take care.

I am sorry you feel so bad. It sounds like an inner ear problem, like a virus. I am a bit unsure about the face and neck pain you speak of. It sounds like sinus problems if it is in your teeth. Stress and TMJ could do this too.
Try and see a specialist, because regular doctors (even ENT's) don't know squat about dizziness.
Take care!
