Static Sounds in Ear!

This is driving me crazy! Can anyone tell me what the static sound in your ears are. It sounds like a bad speaker connection and when I hear voices, loud noises the static sound is present in my ears. But mostly when I yawn or even talk on the phone. The other persons voice creates a static or crackling sound in my ears! This is driving me nuts along with my dizziness.
Anyone Please Thanks in advance. Boxerlover

Re: Static Sounds in Ear!

Hi,

It sounds like you have tinnitus induced by sound. I just got done feeling out a book of paperwork for Tinnitus Retraining Therapy. I have a consult next month with a doctor in philly that specializes in it. Some of the quesitons on the survey were about people who have tinnitus induced by sound. This sounds like what you may be experiencing.

My tinnitus is a buzzing/staticy sound but mine is present 24/7. It is not provoked by sound although at the start of my dizzy problems, I did have some sound sensativity but it has resolved with time.

I know you've been on the boards for a while. Did this symptom just come on recently?

Gloria

Re: Static Sounds in Ear!

Hi gloria,

No I have had it before. But it just seems that lately it has been happening more. I woke up today with the sharp pains deep in my ears, I believe from a night of possible sleep clenching, and the static sounds were present as well. It seems when I yawn to pop my ears it is very noticeable, But when I hear any noise especially loud it sounds like static or crinkling paper! It's driving me crazy. So this is considered tinnitus? I thought that tinnitus was ringing in ears. I guess one way or another this is all connected to the dizziness woozy head as well!

Re: Static Sounds in Ear!

Hmmm, I've had some crackling noise in my ears when I yawn, but that was mostly in the beginning. It only would last for a second and disappear. I believe that has something to do with the e-tubes, but a staticy sound especially brought on by noise I would say would be tinnitus. This crackling or static noise you hear when talking on the phone, etc has to be more of a noise and not the same crackling as heard by the e-tubes when they are adjusting to the pressure outside your ear. Tinnitus is a sound we pick up with our auditory system. It can be ringing, but can manifest itself as other sounds. Mine is mostly a staticy/buzzing sound but I do get an actual ringing occasionally.

If I remember, I'll ask the tinnitus specialist I am seeing next month about the crackling with the e-tubes and tinnitus brought on by sound.

Hope it eventually resolves for you....

Re: Static Sounds in Ear!

Sorry boxerlover - it sounds like it's really swollen up there in your eustation tube area. I don't hear crinkling, but I definitely have that muffled sound especially after I yawn. I clench and grind too.

Soooo weird....

Hey boxerlover, I was just asking Gloria the same thing I'll ask you. About hormones. Have you by any chance tried any HRT, or think that all of your head monster symptoms could be related to perimenopause? I am seriously starting to think this route - that it all has to do with hormones from hell. I've even read that the fluctuating estrogen and progesterone levels can wreak havoc on the vestibular system, and also of course cause migraines which by itself can cause so many horrible things.

Re: Static Sounds in Ear!

I have severe instances of crackling/static in my right ear when exposed to certain levels of noise. This is especially annoying as I sing and play bass in a band. Usually it lasts for a few songs (while I'm trying to pop my ear with my finger or palm) and then stops. My band even has a video where you can see me doing that!
This is the first time I've found someone else with the same problem. I went to an audiologist and they thought it may be some kind of allergy(!?) Not sure I agree with it being tinnitus. I've never heard of this sensation being associated with that (no pun intended). Otherwise I can hear fine out of that ear...once the crackling stops.
Soooo annoying....
