Jaw Popping Help!

Last night I yawned and hear a loud pop. Now my left side of the jaw hurts including ear pain. And on the left side of my neck that hurts too. Even when I swallow it hurts! Did I pull a muscle? Not sure what it is? I am deaf in the left ear so I can rule our hearing loss. Anything I can do? Should I contact my ENT?

Re: Jaw Popping Help!

Hi there,
I've had TMJ for a few years now (the result of being a singer, go figure!) and the jaw popping and neck pain are definitely early symptoms. Usually the popping gets more frequent though and you'll notice the constant pain throughout the whole of your upper jawbone and teeth. If it was a one-time thing you could've simply tweaked a muscle, and consider they're all linked it could've caused some irritation to your ear. I wouldn't worry too much unless it happens again or the pain continues. Try to notice if you clench your jaw when you're stressed or when you wake up from sleeping. If that's the case you can get a night-guard and help yourself out a lot! Hope that helps=)
