Anybody know what could be wrong? - Inner Ear Disorders Message Board

I'm new here, but I've had the same problem for almost two years, so I thought I might as well see if anyone could shed any light on this problem for me.

Nearly two years ago I flew overseas. Upon landing, my right ear didn't "pop" and, as a result, felt plugged. A few days later it popped, but then immediately felt clogged again. This went on for months and months. I especially had problems with it after getting out of the shower in the morning. I went to my family doctor who looked in my ear and said he saw nothing wrong with it. He advised that I hold my nose and blow, as many times a day as I had to, until the ear "popped." That, however, has never helped. I recently asked a friend who's in medicine what he thinks and he told me to stop doing what the doctor told me and to just leave it for a few weeks. He thought maybe I was re-doing damage everytime I was blowing out with my nose plugged, and that maybe what I needed was to give it a chance to heal.

Needless to say, it still hasn't. It still "plugs" on me regularly. Any ideas? It's VERY annoying!!!

Continue going to ENT doctors until someone can offer you a sane solution. Someone will recognize the problem and help you. I'm not talking about your GP, but a doctor that specializes in ENT (ear, nose, throat).

I have had the same problems with my ears since July 2002. The doctor believes it is either allergy related or TMJ disorder. I have begun to get allergy shots and I am praying they help! Perhaps allergy testing would help you figure it out. I am allergic to mold which apparently is everywhere.

Hi, I have had the same problem for 6 weeks after an ear infection. My ent specialist could find nothing wrong. Yesterday was the first relief I've had and I know how you feel, believe me. Use sudafed nasal congestant(red pill take 2) and neo-synephrine nose drops)not spray and tilt your head towards the bad ear for a few minutes. If this does not work after taking the sudafed for a few days also take 1/2 of a 5 mg valium pill at nite and also in the am for 2 days. the valium really worked and I can't believe I don't have the plugged feeling in my ear today. Ask your dr for valium, somehow it relaxes whateaver is going on. good luck.
