Eustachian Tube Dysfunction - Inner Ear Disorders Message Board

Hi,

I have just been looking over lots of information on Eustachian Tube Dysfunction and am starting to wonder whether the symtoms I am experiencing are anything to do with this, eg. clicking in the ear when I swallow. Can anyone tell me what I would be experiencing if I had this condition? Are there any cures?

Hi again,

After reading through many of the messages you all wrote on this board I basically convinced myself that my problem has been Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. I decided I would go and tell the doctor what I thought and on doing so he agreed that there was a problem with fluid behind my ear drums! It feels really good that after 4 months of misery I am beginning to make progress with sorting this out and that I finally know what has been causing me these problems. I'd like to thank you all for helping me with this!

Jon,

Glad you're finally getting to the root of your problem... I just wanted to know what method of treatment you're using, because I have almost exactly the same symptoms you described(clicking in my left ear when I swallow) and have been to several doctors with no success. As you know, this is a tough condition to live with and it's really hard to get anyone(doctors included) to understand what you're going through. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Jason,

As yet I haven't had any treatment as i am still in the process of getting the condition properly diagnosed (I am arranging an appointment with the ENT specialist to get a tympanogram). I am, however, having acupuncture, as I know of someone who had the same condition and apparently accupuncture sorted it out, but I have only had three treatments so far and as yet my ears are still the same. Can I just ask, do you go swimming at all? I have noticed some really strange noises when I swim underwater, likes bits of glass rolling around in my head, and also a crackling sound, like a bonfire.

Anyway, I'll let you know what happens with the ENT doctor, I expect I will be put on antibiotics, which I have heard don't work for a lot of people, I just hope the acupuncture does!
