dizziness is only symptom - Inner Ear Disorders Message Board

I have been told by several people that my problem is more than likely an inner ear problem. Any feedback would be appreciated.
I have been having episodes of dizziness since the evening of Thanksgiving. The first week or two was very bad and the dizziness was pretty constant. Now it has seemed to ease slightly. I have it most days at least once, sometimes lasting just a couple minutes or up to a couple hours. Some days I may not have it at all or at least it's not noticable. Lately it seems to be more when I'm sitting. It's not a room spinning type of dizziness but more of a swaying, head rolling around type of dizziness. If I move my head to quickly or move my eyes to quickly it makes it worse. EKG, Echo, anemia, RBC all normal. Iron was a little low but doctor said not the cause. Any ideas? Thanks!!!!!!!

The best place to start is with a Web Publication called "Dizziness Explained"---I would post the web site here--but do not think it is permitted.

If you search the web on that title you should find it.

What you outline is not uncommon---The pub starts out:

Dizziness is a thorny problem for doctors and patients alike, the chief complaint in 8 million physician visits a year, yet the cause is unspecified in over half the cases. Chronic cases average 5 physician visits without resolution. Imbalance can lead to loss of livelihood, falls and injuries.

Dizziness is one area where doctors and patients fail to see eye to eye. People are seen by multiple specialists and end up with different opinions. You may have the impression that no one is listening to or cares about your problem. After a while you wonder if you're imagining things. Characteristically there is great relief once a diagnosis is firmly in place. Dizziness is not different from any other problem. It can be solved by a systematic approach."........

Thanks for the info. My only concern is that it could be something more serious and that is causing me some stress and anxiety. At this point a diagnosis of an inner ear problem would be a blessing.

Visit an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist who KNOWS about Benign Positional Vertigo, and get that ruled out. They can do it in 15 minutes.

You may need to have a canalith maneuver or Epley Maneuver done by that ENT or a competent physical therapist. 10 minutes.
