My balance has gone and i am scared - Inner Ear Disorders Message Board

Since last wednesday i have had a cold... swishing in my head (tinitus) and loss of balance now and again (vertigo) Now i took it easy all the rest of the week and weekend... But today my balance has gone, i c ant stand up at all.. i am so dizzy... doc gave me antibiotics as my right ear is red and scarred apparently.. he just told me to take it easy and see what i am like by wednesday then ring him again ??? does this make sense? i am scared.. is this caused by an ear infection? also my right ear fe els awfully full and dull aching.. when i blow my nose backwards etc... doesnt releive it.. thanx for any imput..

I understand the fear...I was quite frightened when I was first ill, and have read many accounts here form people who were also frightened by these things. Fortunately, infections are usually easily treated. I wonder why he didn't give you antibiotics? Call him tomorrow, and see what he says.

Dipps, sorry to hear that your having a hard time. Don't worry you are not alone. I have had an ear problem since early January and it started with a pain in one ear and turned into a cold that lasted two weeks. I went to the doctor and he said that it is Labrynthitis. I looked up on the internet and found alot of information. I truly believe him when he told me that he had no idea when it would clear up. Going by alot of the members here on the board, I know its true. Every one here has a different type of illness but they are all tied together. You have alot of support here. Just stick with us. And read the other topics here that people have written. We all have the same need: SUPPORT AND UNDERSTANDING. Stay with us. d
