Post Scant

Hi there,

Someone else made contact with me regarding dizzy docs in NY. She said I could contact her for further info as she has done the rounds and has a lot of first hand experience of dizzy docs in the area. Anyway, she said where she lives - apparently if you're East of the Hudson, you're actually far away from her, but if you're west of it you're very near. Being from England I haven't got a clue about specific NY geography, but apparently her River is the Delaware. She signs herself as from Catskill Mountains, New York.

Anyway, she asked if u were near her, obviously I don't know. Does she sound nearby? Would you like me to get back to her, get info, pass it on. Up to you, I don't mind. I guess even if you're not near it might be useful.

Hope you're doing ok, Scant,

best,

hbep.

Gee thats awful nice of you. Actually, I live in the Catskill Mts. I am going to see my Primary care on Wednesday of next week so I'll need a name. So far I was going with Hayes Wanamaker in Syracuse but if a better recommendation can be made I'll take it.

all the best,
Kathy
I live in Delaware County.
Its possible I could know this person!!!! She sounds close to me.

Hi Kathy,

I've now written back to her. I'm absolutely sure the recommendation from Tom in Syracuse is v. good. Tom runs a balance centre in The States - and has written some of the articles Subs has posted, so he knows his stuff, and as Jen said, recommended her neuro oto, but it's always good to hear about patients first hand experiences, especially if they're so near you.

Hopefully she'll get back before Weds, (I've told her you need a name by then) but don't worry, even if she doesn't I'm sure the man in Syracuse is good. I've also asked her if she's seen him.

Anyway, I'll let you know if I hear,

Hope you're having a good weekend,

best,

hbep.

Thanks for getting back to me. I think I am just going to stick with the guy in Syracuse. Yesterday I had almost a 100% day, went to see some fireworks, was totally relaxed and had a great day. But we all know the story today was back to about 85%. I think I can say with most certainty that month 8 was when I started have better days than in any other month. Of course I did have that 8 day stretch, in June but we all know what happened when I got all excited. I was going to attempt weedwacking today but thankfully it rained because I would have blamed my not so good day on that. I'm testing the waters to see just how far I can push myself. I did do my 45 minute walk when the rain stopped and practiced my VRT which actually made me feel a little off. Anyway, hope you're doing o.k. and I thank you once again for getting those names to me. Am curious as to who this person is from the Catskill Mts.

All the best,
Kathy

Hi there Kathy,

I got a reply from the woman I am in correspondence with who is called Fay (husband Mike) She is raising 2 sons and managing to do a full time job despite the dizzies. I was impressed, not sure I could manage that. I'm afraid she didn't specify what her diagnosis is and I was too polite to ask as I am not as active on this other site as I am on here, so I'm not that familiar with her. She said she was very happy for me to forward her e mail address to you, but I have explained that this contravenes the board rules on here. (I'm sure we could find a way for you to be in touch if you wanted to be.) Anyway, she asked me to post you this info in case it's helpful so I've cut and pasted it below.

Fay wrote:

Delaware County is the next county from mine. I'm in Sullivan county.

I don't know of the doctor in Syracuse. I have seen Larry Meiteles. He is a really nice guy who runs 2 major labs and vestibular therapy. I did not, however, use his v.t. lab because the one at Helen Hayes Hospital, the rehab hospital, is closer. Even closer to your friend is a vestibular therapist associated with Sayre hospital in Sayre Pennsylvania. I spoke with them, but didn't go there.

Anyway, Scant, thought the stuff about the VRT therapist is worth knowing as after you've seen the man in Syracuse he may refer you for VRT. As i said before I'm sure the Syracuse man is good, Tom really does know his stuff, so I think you're right to go with that suggestion.

Good to hear that you had a 100% day, Scant, looks to me like you'll keep getting better and better. I have started my own VRT again, found out, with some dismay that I can't get in to the VRT clinic until the 9th September - I will have waited over 2 months. Anyway, I went through the list of exercises my friend gave me, like Dizzyblonde he was told to do 3 times 5 repetitons of each exercise 4 times a day. I am currently doing one where I lie on my back and roll from side to side and it is making me feel dizzier generally, which is no fun. I am not too worried about this at this point as I know that my friend with lab was told this could happen initially and it was a sign it was working. Hmmm. We'll see.

Anyway, great that you're going to be seeing the dizzy doc,

best,

hbep.
