Just wanted to say thanks again for your words of wisdom. I read under another post your comment about the brain locking in new environments. It's amazing how the head works, isn't it? I needed to hear that because I just hate feeling 98% and then going to a new space and wondering if I'm the only one feeling like there's a minor earthquake going on!! My husband and I really like to travel, and I hate thinking I'll have to go through this on vacation because my brain needs to adjust to the new surroundings. I'm hoping that if I wait to travel until after I'm back to normal, that this compensation stuff will be a moot point.

I'm in my 10th month as of Sept. 29th, and I've had an amazing run of about 2-1/2 weeks of normalcy. There were a couple days last weekend where I went for walks and nothing happened! I thought, okay I'm really getting past this thing. Then, the past couple days for seemingly no reason I'm feeling it again, though it's not bad at all, just slight sensations of movement when I move around quickly. I know it will pass and I just try to ignore it. Is it really true that once you start getting good stretches like that, they just keep coming, getting longer and longer? This is like a part of me now in an odd sort of way, though I'm looking forward to 100% You have done so much research (thanks, by the way, for that link under separate post) and are far enough into this to be really helpful to me. Thanks again!!

Terri

Cool

Hi Terri

...."It's amazing how the head works, isn't it?".....

Yep it is---with this problem---at times---it seems to be your worst enemy---but in reality---with this problem---it is your best friend!!!

....."I just hate feeling 98% and then going to a new space and wondering if I'm the only one feeling like there's a minor earthquake going on!!"....

Know exactly what you mean---would be at 98/99%---go some where new---Bingo!!---while that feeling receded slowly---it was the last thing to completely disappear---about the 13th month---but not much a problem---if I remember correctly---about 12th month---then when it would happen---I just said(to myself)---come on you know what is "going down here" focus & concentrate on what is going on around you----that worked for me---think it---focused and increased the processing power directed---to that cognitive effort.

...."if I wait to travel"....

Again, know what you mean---what we did was take short---two/three day trips(air/car, etc...) through out the whole time---figured---I just give the old brain---some new stuff to compensate on---all in all it worked out fairly well---for me----love to travel!!!!!

...."2-1/2 weeks of normalcy"...."for seemingly no reason I'm feeling it again,".....

Yep---good period---brain fine tuning/locking in what it learned----bad period----brain working on on new stuff----to learn/relearn and lock in---followed by good---followed by bad....etc...then "history".

..."Is it really true that once you start getting good stretches like that, they just keep coming, getting longer and longer?".....

Oh---absolutely---that is exactly what happens---and exactly the way it happens-----with a good period of 2 and half weeks---your nearing the end---which makes sense----to me---think it was about 12th month---that---the good periods---far exceed the bad.

For me it is now the beginning of the 15th month---and while I am still checking the "rear view mirror" I think I left it in the "dust"---as----(except for a very few)-----we all do---but----because of the potential with this---to cause so much "stress"

---(while this vestibular problem is benign--stress is not)

----I would have hated to go through this---without acquiring the in depth knowledge of what the heck was happening and why to me---cause the medical profession sure were not talking!!

I felt it---this knowledge--- was the ONLY thing that gave me a edge in getting the correct treatment, articulating my symptoms correctly to the medical types, assessing their answers as to their accuracy and to finely beat it!!!

Cool

Thanks yet again!! You give me such hope, as I know in my heart I'm nearing the end (I'm certain of it), but it's just nice to have someone who's been there confirm it.

I jogged/walked a 10k race yesterday and no head monster!! It was a great happy day because I was just having fun and not thinking about it at all. When I went to the sports expo to pick up my race bib and t-shirt on Saturday it was a real trip! I'm there bouncing around (in my head of course) and just thinking of you and assimilating it all. Okay brain, lock in. You're exactly right when you say you just focus in and concentrate on what's going on around you. That's exactly what I did (I think it's akin to just saying to myself "okay, there you are, now I'm going to ignore you and pay attention to what I'm here for") and it works!

Have a great day
Terri
