Sudden Extreme Dizziness Upon Waking Up
i'm not quite sure if this is the correct place for this question, but i've heard dizziness is a common symptom of inner ear problems. earlier this morning, at about 5:00 AM, i woke up suddenly and sat up in bed. as soon as i sat up, my head started to go back and forth (left to right) dramatically and my room was spinning A LOT. it was probably ten times worse than spinning in a chair or being drunk. i had not had anything to drink the night before, though i have recently begun smoking cigarettes occasionally. i stumbled off my bed, but found i was so dizzy that i could not stand up. i ran into the wall, finally falling back to the floor and waiting ~10 seconds until the extreme dizziness faded. once i could stand, i simply went back to bed as the dizziness had subsided. a slight headache followed. this has never happened to me before. it worries me quite a bit..i was just looking for any input on what the cause might be, (if it may imply something serious), or if it's nothing i should worry about. i suppose i should also mention that i just returned from the Virgin Islands where i swam a lot, and my left ear had been bothering me just a little as if i had gotten water in it. the pain had subsided before i went to bed last night.
